In order to see the incredible sites around Datong, you do need a vehicle and to get much out of the experience, a guide is key. It is a more expensive tour but after driving between sites with a private car and an English speaking guide to give us insight into the historical locations, it’s worth it. The cost does go down per person the more you have in your group.
Excellent experienced, professional, and knowledgeable tour guide, Mr. Jackie Zhang. He will orchestrate the route of the scenary point to avoide traffic. He will show important places to visit to save times. He Conneced history to all the scens on the road. It is a cultural, sightseeing trip, very fruitful trip. We are blessed to have hime for this trip. I would say there is not many such a great guide in China. Thanks to Mr. Zhang
This was my first time traveling with China Culture Tour, despite visiting China almost every year for the past 15 years. I specifically told Nora that I am a history enthusiast and didn’t want to know more than my guide when it came to historical details. To my delight, I met Rita—the best Chinese guide I have ever had! She is incredibly knowledgeable about history and answers every historical question without hesitation. She is one of the few guides with a university degree in Chinese history, having graduated from Taiyuan University. Rita also arranged one of the best costume photo shoots for me, selecting a traditional Tang dynasty outfit. The photos were exceptionally beautiful—a once-in-a-lifetime experience! I have never left a review on TripAdvisor for Chinese trip before, simply because I have never encountered anyone at this level. I would love to have her accompany me at every historical site whenever possible. Our driver, Mr. Lee, was also unforgettable. He consistently went out of his way to assist me in every possible aspect. On one particularly windy day, my lower back was in serious pain from the cold. Without a word, Mr. Lee followed us up the hill to make sure I was safe, even though there was no reason for him to do so. What a truly kind and thoughtful young man!
Anna is a wonderful guide. Very knowledgeable and spoke perfect english. It was a long going to all 3 sites which are far from each other. After that she took me to have a terrific meal.
