Kancheepuram is a great destination as a day trip from Chennai. Start was later than stated as I think they forgot!! However, driver was excellent although with limited English. Problem was with the local guide. He did his explanations well but I was asked to pay a 200 rupees entrance fee to the main temple which is not necessary and I think went to his friend. I was also asked by a 'priest' in the temple to give him 500 rupees per god in his alcove in payment for a blessing. This added up to 2000 rupees as there were 4 gods and was obviously a scam. I didn't pay but felt that the guide was part of this. I think the tour operator needs to change his local guide. All other things were fine.

Took this Kancheepuram tour during a short stay in Chennai, and it was a nice way to get out of the city and visit a historical sight -- private transfer in a very clean and air conditioned vehicle, with hotel pick-up and drop-off, and private tour guide on site. Driver was on time, and very cordial. Good way to take in some extensive history of the area. The temple and its hand carved sculpture construction was very impressive. The tour company was MPM TRAVEL XS PVT LTD, booked through Viator. I like the convenience of booking through Viator. Thanks!
