Bornean Sun bear is a sun bear rescue and rehabilitation facility being developed in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. Rainforest Discovery Centre evolved from small, cozy environmental education (EE) centre in 1996 into one of Sabah's most popular EE centres.

Our tour guide will pick up you around 8am from your hotel or Airport. Head to first stop at Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. It was established in 1964 to return orphaned "apes back to the wild". The centre was being administered by the wildlife section of the Forestry Department which in 1988 was upgraded as a department under the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Development. All administration and management was given to the new Wildlife Department of Sabah. At 10:00 am Proceed to Platform B, observe man's closest relative a 'the Orang Utans being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterous Forest of Borneo and later watch a 25 minutes scheduled video documentary show.
Then move on to Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, promote sun bear conservation in Borneo through animal welfare, conservation, rehabilitation, education and research - giving captured sun bears a better home and restoring their right to live in the wild, by A Creating the capacity to confiscate, rehabilitate and release suitable orphaned and ex-captive bears back into the wild & providing an improved long-term living environment for captive bears that cannot be released. Educating the public and raising awareness about this species. Achieving increased protection for sun bears and their habitat through ongoing research, increased knowledge and awareness, and further protection of habitat. Lastly, visit to Rain forest Discovery Centre. It is the gateway to getting to know the uniqueness and Importance of Borneo’s rain forests. Situated 23 kilometers from Sandakan Town and not too far from the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre, the RDC’s main highlights are its exhibition halls, the Plant Discovery Garden, the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, environmental education programmes and a small lake for boat rides. The RDC also gives visitors a chance to get intimate with nature through its Nature Experience programme which includes a guided walk to the Plant Discovery Garden, Rainforest Walk and indoor/outdoor activities. After finish above mentioned sightseeing we will Drop off you at Sandakan airport or your respective hotel (town area only).

Driver was on time and despite some late communication looked after us very well. 40 minute drive, long lines to get in, storage lockers available. Taking a camera cost 10 ringett, no water bottles etc allowed in, phones allowed. Orangutan centre so clean and pristine. Observed nursery and then normal platform. There had been no orang-utans the day before, we had 7 including a baby. Wonderful. One walked past us on the wooden trail. Only disappointment was that there were too many people and the ones at the front of the viewing platforms stayed put the whole time instead of moving away and letting others get a good view. Would suggest some type of timed walkway in front, maybe 5 minutes, and rotate. Into sunbears centre, again lovely. Looking down on them so could only see their backs. Luckily one climbed a tree in front of us and we got a good view. Several Chinese Itourists had food bundles to throw down to the bears. Unfortunately 2 of them threw them directly on the bears head and thought it was funny. No staff accompanied them or told them off. We then went to the Rainforest Discovery Centre and wandered the beautiful grounds. Great views from the canopy tree tower and suspension bridge. There was a little more rubbish here. We had a great lunch in town. Thoroughly enjoyable day. For of us provided a rating out of 10 - 9.5, 9, 9 and 8. Recommended.
Our Driver was very friendly. The 3 activities were very good. RDC was our favourite! 🐒🦧 But to be honest, just book a Grab or Taxi. Our driver did nothing else than driving us, he waited outside and paid our entrance fee and food. Save your money…
Ruined the trip of a lifetime, I had arranged flights from Kota Kinabalu at 06:45 in the morning, meaning a very early start for my family including my 3 kids. Just past midnight, 6 hours before our flight time, the tour operator cancelled our tour. No way to contact them, even though I had paid fully in advance and booked the trip over 2 weeks in advance. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS.
We had a lovely time and our driver was very helpful getting us there on time and purchasing our tickets, but honestly it would have been much more cost effective to get a Grab for the day and buy our own tickets and lunch.
We had the pleasure of having Siti as our guide on the tour. Our driver Ahmed was very friendly and picked us up from our hotel at the stated time. He then picked up Siti and from the moment we met her she was friendly, informative and a pleasure to be around. I really enjoyed chatting to her as we walked around the Ornagutan rescue, the sun bear sanctuary and the rainforest discovery centre. She also told us useful information and interesting facts. She wasn’t too overbearing and knew when to just let us chat amongst ourselves. By the end of the day we all felt very glad that we’d met her! Would definitely recommend both Siti and Ahmed, together the dream team! And of course seeing the animals and especially the orangutans close up was incredible.

We tried to contact them prior to confirm the pickup location but they did not respond . We even contacted Viator who also could not get in contact with them. On the day we waited for them to pick us up but no one came. We then contacted Viator and filed a complaint. After the complaint they finally got back to us and basically lied by saying they were waiting for us at the hotel.
Amazing tour got to see lots of wildlife with an awesome guide and driver Sitti and JaJa, Cannot recommend enough, lunch was fantastic also, a must do tour if you come to Sandakan
