Valley of the Kings, burial place of the kings of Thebes (ancient Luxor), you will have a brief stop at the visitors center. Guides are not permitted inside the tombs, but your guide will tell you what to look for inside the elaborately decorated rooms. If you wish to visit the tomb of King Tutankhamun, an additional cost is payable direct.
Temple of Hatshepsut, one of the most striking monuments in Egypt. Your guide will introduce you to the history of the temple and the story of Queen Hatshepsut, the famous female ruler of Egypt who posed as a male to gain the throne. There is free time to explore at your leisure as you wander the large courtyards and admire the intricate hieroglyphic decorations.
Colossi of Memnon, which mark the site of the funerary temple of Amenhotep III. These two giant statues standing tall and proud on the West Bank are all that remain of the ancient complex.
Temples of Karnak. Walk along the Avenue of Sphinx to enter the complex as your guide explains how the massive facade was constructed. On entering the Temples of Karnak you will see each legacy left by the various pharaohs as the complex grew even larger. The deeper you go into the complex, the further back in time you will travel, with the oldest ruins dating back over 3,000 years. Walking through the Great Court into the Great Hypostyle Hall, it's hard not to be overwhelmed by the 134 columns towering above you like an ancient forest. At the rear of the complex you will find the sacred lake where centuries ago pharaohs and their offerings to the gods were purified. After a tour of the complex, you will have additional free time to explore at leisure.
Luxor Temple which was once joined to the Temples of Karnak by a two-kilometer long Avenue of Sphinx, a portion of which marks the entrance to the temple. Dominated by statues of the great warrior pharaoh Ramses II, Luxor Temple has survived Nile floods, foreign invasion and thousands of years exposed to the elements. A pure Egyptian temple, the inner walls and columns are decorated with intricate hieroglyphics which your guide will help you decipher. Find out how Alexander the Great wrote himself into Luxor Temple's history, and see one of the original pair of obelisk, the second of which now stands on the Place de la Concorde in Paris.

Luxor is a wonderful city and holds the biggest number of archeological sites in Egypt so it definitely worths a visit. Karnak temple and the royal tombs in The valley of the kings were so mesmerizing and really put together all the history and knowledge we got from previously visiting Cairo. So far so good but our tour guide Mohammed was unfortunately a disaster. I honestly hold nothing personal to him but if I knew this in advance, I would rather spend the day seeing the monuments on my own. I am an English teacher and obviously fluent, so I was massively disappointed when I realized that Mohamed COULDN’T SPEAK ANY ENGLISH. He literally was unable to form any sentence that made sense, didn’t understand any of the questions we were asking and struggled a lot to express himself. This was a complete bummer and totally destroyed our experience as we were truly interested to know about Egyptian civilization and history but were left with little to zero information. I tried to inform the travel agency about our experience but they only informed the guide while he was still with us that made things extra awkward and uncomfortable without obviously having the option to change anything at that point. Other than the language barrier part, we booked a full day trip with many locations to be covered and we generally got the impression that he got tired very fast and was rushing into things and skipping locations/information just to finish our day the soonest possible. Our driver was kind and pleasant and could definitely speak way better English than the guide which was even more tragic.
I can understand your disappointment with the tour guide, Mohammed. But in otherside he shared us alot of tours with our clients, American, British and we never get a bad comment or a complain at him. Although i offered you to replacing him with another guide but you refused. It`s not your issue or even feel awkward and uncomfortable when we asking you to replace him. At the end we aplogize for that. Wish to you great day.
We have booked this tour for 27th May.. The tour guide did turn up at scheduled time at 6 am. He was having good knowledge.. The problem is that these people try to con the tourist by taking them to some shops that are also conniving to con you. They took us to 2 shops. This was not in scheduled program.. They take you on their own and force you to go to these shops. While there were many Souvenir shops at sites that we visited, Ahmad did not allow time to see anything... He kept pressing hard for time. Strangely these guys spent more than an hour of the tour on two con shops rather than at sites. These shops pretend to be Government establishment and say they will issue genuine goods certificate.. One of the shops was of Papherus painting shops. We bought 2 painting at USD 80.. Later at our hotel which was a 5 star property, there was a souvenir shop which was selling the same painting at USD 20.. In market we could get them at USD 8.. So something that costs USD was sold to us at 80 USD through a setup that has been made to con you.. Viator should immidiatly ban such businesses else they are becoming part of the scam.
During the main tour of luxor.you asked the guide about the local sovunear shops. The guide offerd and explained the differance between the Quality of the local shops and the govermental stores without any pushing from his side and no opligataion to buy or not. And there is flexabilty to return what you got diffrent than the local shops.
