Danny Boyle glamorised the slum experience in his film. Reality Tours does the exact opposite by showing one to actuality of an industrious people who no matter what life has thrown their way have a resilience and persistence like no other. According to me every person in this world should put this to-do on their list in Mumbai. I am an ex-Mumbaikar who now lives abroad and this tour was a wake-up call to thank God for all we have. Dharavi is sectioned into the hard working people who turn plastic into recyclables, the ones who make machines of iron without being mechanical engineers, the ones who turn leather into beautiful and luxurious goods, the ones who do the same to clay and into pottery, and the unrecognised chefs who make humongous steel pots of Biryani to feed their uprooted brothers in the slum. A very insightful tour across the little and narrow streets of the biggest slum of Mumbai. It really helped to understand the hole parallel economy going on in such places as well as to get a better understanding of the reality of 12 million inhabitants of this city. We had a very informative and varied guided tour of Daravi, with leather workshops, plastic processing and many small alleys through the residential areas.
