By starting our journey ahead of the rush, we’ll ensure you beat the heavy crowds and enjoy a much cooler, more serene experience at the sites. We recommend arriving 15 minutes early to ensure a smooth start to your adventure.
Step back in time at the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most evocative places on Earth. Frozen in time by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, this vast site offers a unique window into ancient Roman life. Walk through remarkably preserved streets, explore opulent villas adorned with vibrant frescoes, and marvel at the majestic temples and theaters that once formed the heart of this thriving city.
Enter the city through Porta Marina, the most monumental of Pompeii’s seven gates. Walk in through this ancient gateway, originally designed for travelers arriving from the sea, and explore with your guide the impressive double-arch structure that separated pedestrians from carriages. As you pass through these massive stone walls, you’ll immediately feel the grandeur of the Roman Empire welcoming you into the streets of the past.
Step into the Forum, the monumental heart of ancient Pompeii. Explore with your guide the remains of the city's grandest temples and public buildings that once buzzed with political and commercial life. Walk in the footsteps of Roman citizens across this expansive square, where you can admire the iconic silhouette of Mt. Vesuvius looming in the distance—the perfect spot to capture the essence of this frozen city.
The Macellum of Pompeii was located on the Forum and as the provision market of Pompeii was one of the focal points of the ancient city. The building was constructed in several phases. When the earthquake of 62 CE destroyed large parts of Pompeii, the Macellum was also damaged.
The Forum Baths are located behind the Temple of Jupiter and date back to the years immediately after the founding of the colony of veterans by General Silla (80 BC). Women's and men's quarters had separate entrances. The men's section presents an apodyterium (dressing room), used also as a tepidarium (for medium temperature baths), frigidarium (for cold baths) and calidarium (for hot baths). Like many buildings in Pompeii, the baths were heavily damaged during the earthquake of 62 AD.
Dominated by the Vesuvius with its statues of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, the temple was the Capitolium, similar to the one located in the Ancient Rome. The statues were highly placed to be visible to those passing in the Forum.
The Lupanar of Pompeii is the most famous brothel in the ruined Roman city of Pompeii. It is of particular interest for the erotic paintings on its walls. Lupanar is Latin for "brothel". The Pompeii lupanar is also known as Lupanare Grande.
The House of the Faun (Casa del Fauno) is one of the largest and most luxurious private residences in Pompeii, occupying an entire city block. Named after the iconic bronze statue of a dancing faun found in its main atrium, the house is a masterpiece of Roman architecture and Hellenistic influence. It is most famous for housing the magnificent Alexander Mosaic, which depicts the battle between Alexander the Great and Darius III of Persia. With its two peristyle gardens and intricate floor mosaics, it remains a powerful symbol of the immense wealth and sophisticated taste of the city's elite.
Via dell’Abbondanza was the ancient main street (decumanus maximus) of ancient Pompeii, which ran across the city in the direction east/west from the Forum to the Porta Sarno. In ancient times the street was crowded and noisy with many shops, workshops ("officinae”), cafes, snack-bars and restaurants for food and drink.
The Basilica, with its extension of 1,500 square meters, was the most sumptuous building of the Forum, and its space was used to carry out business and for the administration of justice.
The Large Theater of Pompeii was built from the Romans on the slope of a hill located in the area; they took advantage of the natural depression of the mountain to create a majesty auditorium divided into 5 sectors. On the stage were played tragedies of the Greco-Roman traditions.
A you exit from the Archeological Park of Pompeii, enjoy free time for lunch between your explorations. Whether you choose to grab a quick traditional snack or sit down at a local restaurant. This is the perfect moment to relax and recharge before we head toward the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius.
Reach the crater's edge at 1.280 mt to admire a breathtaking panorama on the Gulf of Naples. The surface of the path is uneven, but it' ll be well worth it. Following the devastating eruption, it was named after the Roman God of the Flame and Metal Forgery – Vulcan
Walk in the clouds as you reach the summit and explore with your guide the rim of the great crater. From this incredible vantage point, you will be rewarded with a world-class view overlooking the Bay of Naples. Marvel at the breathtaking panorama of the sparkling Mediterranean, the city below, and the distant islands of Capri and Ischia, all from the top of Europe’s most famous volcano.
After an unforgettable day of history and heights, settle into your comfortable coach for the return trip to Sorrento. Explore with your guide the final highlights of the journey as you descend the volcanic slopes, enjoying one last view overlooking the Bay of Naples. It is the perfect time to unwind, review your photos, and relax as we bring you back to your original departure point.

The early start is worthwhile because the crowds are less in the road and at Pompeii. The tour was very efficiently organised with an excellent tour manager. He was called Nello. And Luigi was a top driver. The refreshments and toilet facilities are good at Pompei. They are grim at Vesuvius
Really great tour for money, Nello was a good tour for the bus and was very friendly. We had a different guide around the ruins of pompeii and unfortunately i don't know her name but she was amazing, she had so much information and was really sweet to everyone. Mount Vesuvius was great and it's good to be able to go up at your own pace without a guide, Luigi our driver was outstanding! He handled the terrible roads brilliantly For £100 each you can't complain with all the transport, discounted lunch at zeus restaurant and quick service, free toilet access the whole time, air con and all great people.
Fabulous day, Roberto was great, informative, entertaining and really kept an eye on everyone. I would highly recommend.
Alberto was great. Very knowledgeable and wove in some humour. He kept everything on time and made the trip worthwhile.
Great tour director. Explained everything well. Worth the money. Plenty of time at each location. Definitely recommend!
Well organized tour. Pick up was a breeze. Everything was on time and well thought of. Pompeii is a lot to cover so having a professional guide, In addition, that gave us the highlights in the hot weather was much appreciated. He was pretty good engaging and did a great job. Don’t recall his name. Anything more I don’t think we could have hand. Vesuvius was also well done. It is a self guided walk up the crater and down no guide, but it was fine for us. Crater on one side and sweeping views of the Gulf of Naples on the other are panoramic views. Now the best part our tour guide Dani was really funny, engaging and took care of us with a sense of humor and gave us a lot of useful information throughout the trip.
Roberto was a fantastic guide - informative and humorous. He took great care of the group.
Bus trip from Sorrento to Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius—it was perfect! We loved our guide Nello and our Pompeii guide Monica. Pompeii part was the perfect length and very informative, lunch at the restaurant was better than expected and the hike up to Vesuvius was a bit more challenging in the heat than expected but absolutely worth the views. Really enjoyed the experience with my husband and 16 and 18 year olds.
Our tour guide was Max - he was great. He was informative, approachable and kind. He gave us information on what to expect from the day and was realistic about the challenges that some may face when climbing Mount Vesuvius, especially in the extreme temperatures. He was clearly aware of the challenges and recognised the achievement of those taking part. When visiting Pompeii - which was visited before Mount Vesuvius - our guide was Roberta. Overall, she was a good guide and provided key information that enriched the experience of the surroundings. We enjoyed lunch in Pompeii which was especially delicious and only 18 euros per person. Well worth it!
Dear Traveler, Thank you so much for taking the time to share this wonderful review! We are so glad to hear that you had a great full-day experience exploring both Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius with us! Max will be thrilled to read your kind words: his thoughtful, approachable nature and clear, realistic guidance make a huge difference when tackling the Vesuvius climb, especially under the summer heat. Recognizing everyone's effort on that steep trail is so important to us, and we are glad his encouragement made the trek feel like a true shared achievement! It is also great to know that Roberta enriched your walk through Pompeii with so much detailed history, and that you enjoyed the delicious lunch break before heading up the volcano. Value and comfort are always top priorities for our team! Thank you for choosing to explore with us, and we hope to welcome you back for another fantastic adventure in the future! Best regards, The IAMME IA! Gray Line Team
This experience was well organized and helpful for tourists without access to a private vehicle. Roberta, our guide at Pompeii, was very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, our guide Daniella (who we had for the rest of the time) was a bit rude. Arrival time was 7:30, and at 7:22, she was calling us to ask where we were. When we arrived at 7:25, she was clearly upset with us and told us that we were famous among the other tourists (apparently because we were the last to arrive). This started the excursion off on a bad tone, and Daniella repeatedly talked down to the tourists in our group. I am still giving the excursion 5 stars because it was well executed, but Daniella’s attitude was not appreciated.
