Formerly a convict site, Port Arthur is bursting with history and today boasts a landscape of natural beauty, scenic ruins and restored buildings. Gain a deep connection to the history of the convicts as you cruise around the Isle of the Dead on Carnarvon Bay. Enjoy personalised touring with live commentary from our local, experienced driver guides who are on-hand throughout the day. Lunch and refreshments can be purchased on site, or you are welcome to bring your own. Join the optional free Remarkable Caves tour and enjoy a visit to the Chocolate Factory on our return to Hobart. Itinerary
Travel across the Tasman Bridge, into the Coal River Valley, then through the historic town of Richmond. Enjoy a short photo stop at the famous convict built Richmond Bridge
We continue on to the breathtaking Tasman Peninsula. Be in awe of the wonderful views as we visit Pirates Bay Lookout and Tasman Arch.
Join a complimentary site talk and learn about the many restored buildings including the Penitentiary, Commandant's House and the Church. Browse in the Port Arthur Gallery which includes interactive exhibits and displays. Enjoy a cruise on Carnarvon Bay around the Isle of the Dead. Enjoy a picnic lunch (bring your own) from the landscaped grounds or purchase lunch from one of the many options available in the visitors centre.
Experience the power of this rugged coastline. Take the walkway right down the mouth of the cave and feel the power of the waves.

Pickup Locations & Times
Hotel pick-ups commence approximately 40 minutes before listed start time/tour departure time. If you selected a hotel pick-up, you will receive a separate email from the tour operator. Please check your emails for the confirmed hotel pick-up time. You will receive the email within 24hrs of booking. For bookings made after closing time for the following day, you will receive your email confirming pick up details the following morning, at least 2 hrs prior to departure. Please be waiting at your hotel pick-up location 5 mins prior to your confirmed pick-up time. Not all pick-up locations are directly at the hotel. The exact pick-up location will be provided in the email sent from the tour operator. If a hotel has not been selected, your pick-up will be confirmed as Brooke St Pier, 12 Franklin Wharf, Hobart (central departure point) at 8.30am.

It was a wonderful trip. I got tired of turning my head on the way - there are amazing views everywhere: coves, hills, fields, picturesque farms, we were lucky with the weather, the sky is blue overhead, the sun is shining ! Our guide and driver Rod is a charming man with a great sense of humor and a wonderful storyteller who loves and knows the history of his region. The place we visited is simply unique in its beauty, has an unusual dark and instructive history. I recommend this tour to everyone.

Really enjoyed this outing, which included history of one of the darkest parts of Australian history, and lots of opportunities to see great views of costal Tasmania. The guide was extremely engaging and knowledgeable, and provided such outstanding narrative of the history and insights of the area.

We booked this journey during winter. Our driver (Shaun) is a pretty friendly guy. Having a good safety concern about driving as well as helping everyone during the whole trip. Not only sharing us the historical background but also willing to answer our questions. Port Arthur is a beautiful historical attraction. Good spot for learning about history and walking around for relaxing.
