Olden: Easy Kayaking for Beginners on the Fjord

It’s a good workout so be prepared for a lot of exercise. The guides are great. A very good time was had by all.

How many people 70+ year olds can say they kayaked on a Norwegian fjord? 🙋🏼‍♂️🙋🏼‍♀️ The tour operators made it easy to do, and we had a fabulous time. I’m so glad we didn’t pass on this opportunity.

This tour is handled very well and our two guides, Patrick and Rob, were excellent. We are experienced kayakers but most in the group were not. Patrick took everyone through basics from the gear, the way you sit in the kayak, the way you paddle, and most importantly to the clientele, he made everyone feel safe. Several people were nervous about their first time in a kayak, but all were beaming with happiness afterwards. It’s a VERY easy kayak just within a small area. Kayaking on a pristine fjord with the magnificent views feels different from that level versus being on the shore or your cruise ship. I can tell this company does all their adventures well and would highly recommend them. Patrick was very gracious and answered many questions while informing us about the area and how certain features were formed. Very nice experience for all levels.

Our guide was very good and we loved the trip. My only criticism is we spent too much time getting ready and not enough time on the water which meant we didn’t travel far. There was also wind from the back of a front that came through which limited our range. Great for beginners.

What a great day in Olden, made memorable by Benji and staff with Olden Active. Kayaking the Fjord just as the weather was breaking was magical. Very easy access in and out, great gear provided and thorough instruction with safety always a priority provided the best experience. Just a small group so we were able to chat and experience this guided tour without feeling pushed along or excluded. A truly great experience!

Although I regularly SUP, neither my husband nor I had ever been kayaking before. We needn't have worried. We were given dry suits and some basic guidance about how to paddle by a lovely guide called A (I'm sorry, I don't know how to spell her name) who then helped us climb safely into a tandem kayak. We were lucky enough to be the only booking and to have her to ourselves so she took us under the bridge and a short distance upstream, before turning and going with the flow back into the fjord. The conditions were perfect, the views amazing and A's guidance, knowledge, excellent English together with her readiness to chat and answer our questions, made for a perfect morning. We really had such a great time and would recommend this experience to anyone.

We were lucky to have the tour to ourselves as a couple. I have never kayaked before and am not a great fan of water sport but was made to feel perfectly comfortable on the water. The pace of the tour was gentle and there are lovely views. Our guide and all the other staff we met were friendly and helpful. All the equipment required was provided and fit for use.

We kayaked as a family with teenagers. The weather was not ideal but we all had a great time. The team are really well organised and professional. All staff were friendly and enthusiastic. The equipment is good quality and well maintained. Would highly recommend.
