Description

Enjoy unlimited food, beer, and soft-drinks on this tuk-tuk tour of Siem Reap's local cuisine and see another side of Cambodia you haven’t experienced - full of local Khmer life, vibrancy, and flavors. We'll visit 4 authentic eateries plus a local bar, including street food from the oldest stall in town, the only restaurant in town serving cuisine from the Kula ethnic minority, and sipping beer while watching the cows come home (literally) during sunset in a rural village. Plus a lot more! My hosts and I have worked hard to create a truly unique experience that you can't get anywhere else. My hosts and our vendors all have deep roots in Siem Reap, and our entire menu is produced within Siem Reap province, down to the home-made fermented fish sauce and garlic-chili sauces.

Itinerary

30 min

In Temple Town, there’s endless touristy restaurants pushing the same myth and menu about Cambodian food: beef loklak, fish amok, and green curry. But if you look closely, there are no local customers, and the chefs are eating something different in the back room. Millions of people come to Siem Reap completely missing what food here truly is. That’s why we spent months on squat boats, knee deep in mud with water buffalo, and exploring countryside villages where locals eat the real stuff. Because it’s not just about the food, but where it comes from and who prepares it. We’ve built strong relationships with the local community to offer you an incredibly unique and authentic experience. We’ve met the servers, the chefs, and the farmers behind every grain of rice and drop of fish sauce, to put together a one-of-a-kind experience. The food you’ll eat features ingredients and recipes that are made in Siem Reap by locals whose roots date back to the Era of God-Kings.

39 min

Kula Cuisine: Visit the only restaurant in town serving cuisine from this small ethnic minority group originating in northwest Cambodia. You’ll love their use of local herbs and homemade pickles to create a unique flavor.

60 min

Get transported to a different world where water buffalo roam the rice fields and locals pick lotus seeds for a snack. We'll visit Brother Vet and his stilted home for a meal in a village older than Angkor. Eat seasonal ingredients where civil war, God Kings, and European trading envoys passed for centuries.

30 min

If a street food stall can turn into a restaurant, it means they made it. It also means that this bbq shop is one of the oldest in town. Come find out why it’s our go-to for beef skewers and what we eat ’em with!

30 min

There are plenty of sweet treats in Cambodia, but one stands above the rest. We’ll visit our favorite spot for made-to-order pancakes from a wife-husband duo with a special story. Finish the night with an in-house cocktail that highlights local ingredients, or grab an ice-cold pint of Cambodia beer, at a fun hidden hangout.

Amazing Food Tour and Introduction to Siem Reap!

I absolutely loved this tour, it was a comprehensive introduction to Siem Reap and Cambodian cuisine. Our guides were phenomenal in introducing us to Cambodia through a shared passion: food! They brought us to the best spots and fed us the most delicious Cambodian dishes, including being welcomed to a local village for a homecooked mean, sharing details about the culture that one can only glean through a local. We loved everything we ate and all the places we went; highly recommended!

Operator response

What an amazing Siem Reap evening you had! It was great to read that the local village stop and those Cambodian dishes made your introduction to the city feel so complete. It left you with that much to remember.

An absolutely incredible food tour experience in Siem Reap

This sunset food tour is absolutely incredible! Sochea was absolutely amazing. So knowledgable, friendly and passionate about the culture of Cambodia. Visiting the home in the local village was an incredible experience and we feel lucky to have had the opportunity to do that. Food was fantastic and delicious cocktail to finish.

Hanging with Heng

This is a must do! Heng, our guide, was a stand out! Heng's knowledge of the food we had, the history of the places that we ate at was superlative. The highlight of the tour was the home visit where we went into a rural village and had a meal prepared by the family. All the food that we had was amazing, true Cambodian flavours.

Operator response

What a memorable night in Siem Reap with that village home visit! You got so much out of Heng’s knowledge, and it was great to read that the family meal and those Cambodian flavours stayed with you.

Amazing food tour with Lost Plate Siem Reap!

We booked the Lost Plate food tour in Siem Reap and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Cambodia. Our guide, Mr Sann, was brilliant he was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about sharing local food and culture with visitors. He made the whole evening feel personal rather than like a typical tour. The food itself was fantastic, a real mix of dishes we wouldn’t have found (or known how to order) on our own. A real highlight was the stop at the fishing village to visit Mr Vet’s house, which gave us a genuine glimpse into local life beyond the usual tourist spots. I came away having learnt loads about Cambodian food and culture, not just having eaten well. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Siem Reap who wants an authentic, well-guided food experience rather than a generic tourist trail.

Operator response

You had such a memorable evening in Siem Reap! Sann made it feel personal for you, and that stop at the fishing village gave you that extra glimpse into local life.

Must-Do in Siem Reap

The Old Siem Reap sunset food tour is a fantastic way to experience local food culture and it was the best thing I did in Siem Reap aside from the temples. Heng is a wonderful guide - not only does she have in-depth knowledge of the cultural background of all the food you will try (mi kola, ban hoi, a home cooked meal outside the city, skewers, and desserts), but she will also educate you about Cambodian history and society. Heng and our host for the home cooked dinner, Mr. Wat, are a delight to hang out with. If you really want to experience Cambodia, you will not regret the trip outside the city to Mr. Wat's for dinner - it is a refreshing step outside the usual resort/hotel bubble and the food is delicious.

Operator response

Thanks for taking the time to share this. Glad Heng and the food both stood out.

Great introduction to local Cambodian cuisine

My wife and I went for a Lost Plates food tour around mid-June 2026. It was our first time in Cambodia so we wanted to sample a variety of local cuisine. We chose Lost Plates as we read on a magazine that they included a local village experience in their tours. Our guide was Heng. While we signed up for a group tour, it ended up being a private tour because we were the only ones that day. It was a rainy day but Heng arrived on time with a Remork. Before we started off, she spent some time briefing us about what to expect during the tour, including the number of food stops planned. We made a mistake of not skipping lunch - there was a feast awaiting us. There were 5 stops, with 7 dishes in total. First stop was a local noodle shop where we had Mi Kola (a noodle dish) and Ban Hoi (a DIY wrap dish). The second stop was where we made a half hour journey to the countryside where we were hosted by Mr Wat in his home. I must admit I was feeling increasingly anxious as we neared our destination as some of the houses did not look so well maintained. Thankfully, Mr Wat’s home was clean and well-kept. He took us on a little house tour where he explained the local cultures and beliefs behind the house’s design and artefacts. After that, we feasted on his wife’s amazing cooking. We had 3 amazing dishes (fried chicken, prahok, and sweet and sour fish) with rice. It was interesting to learn more about Mr Wat’s life over good food and a beer. After that, we headed back into town where we stopped by a skewers shop (delicious freshly grilled meat skewers!), and then had a pancake dessert (like a prata!). The last stop was a local bar where we had a nice cocktail night cap. Apart from the food, Heng was central to our experience. She shared her knowledge about the local dishes with enthusiasm, and as the night went on, we also learnt more about her life in Cambodia, and the local culture. I liked how there was always a story behind each food establishment we visited, and you can tell it was chosen with care to reflect not just the local cuisine, but also to support the local businesses. Would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Cambodia and would like to have a crash course in the local cuisine. Even better if you manage to get Heng as your guide!

Perfection

Lost plate organises the best tours around the world. I've done three tours before in China and found myself in Siem Reap and was pleasantly surprised to find one of their food tours here. The itinerary and portions are well thought out and with a guide like Heng is the cherry on top. She is genuinely excited to show us around the city, explain the food, the history behind the shop owners and all that with a huge smile. Thank you!

Operator response
