Itinerary
Nevado de Toluca, meaning "naked lord" in Nahuatl, stands as Mexico's fourth-highest mountain. This extinct volcano, soaring at 4,600 meters, boasts nine peaks and two picturesque lagoons, perfect for hiking and the possibility of glimpsing the rare teporingos or volcano rabbits, native to the area. For those inclined and in good physical condition, can ascend to one of its popular peaks, Águila or Fraile. These peaks encircle part of the volcano crater, offering stunning views of the Sol and Luna lagoons.
Toluca's name originates from the Nahuatl word Tollocan, signifying "place where the god Tolo is". Stroll beneath the grand nineteenth-century portals, which are the largest in Mexico, and admire the architectural diversity of the buildings, reflecting various styles such as baroque, neoclassical, modernist, and contemporary.

I appreciate the tour guide (Ed) and driver we had on this trip. They were both so supportive, helpful and kind. We had some travel challenges with closed roads and more than usual traffic, but they were always creative in working around it and accommodated our needs. The hike is challenging, but the views are worth it! I would definately try to book for a weekday to avoid crowds as the area is popular. Overall, we had a great experience with this company.
