Mostraumen Fjord Cruise – Operated & Guided by Locals

Description
Experience the Mostraumen Fjord Cruise on board our small, intimate vessels—each carrying fewer than 100 guests for a relaxed, spacious and personal journey. Enjoy large outdoor decks for fresh-air sightseeing and a cozy indoor lounge with panoramic windows. In our onboard kiosk, you can purchase snacks and a selection of hot and cold drinks, with and without alcohol, to enjoy along the way. Departing from central Bergen, we sail past historic landmarks before heading through the Cityfjord, Salhusfjord and Osterfjord, where steep mountains and tranquil coves create a constantly shifting landscape. The adventure reaches its highlight in the narrow Mostraumen Channel, where the captain carefully navigates between towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls. With daily departures year-round, this is the most intimate and up-close fjord experience from Bergen—perfect for travelers seeking comfort, atmosphere and unforgettable views.

Itinerary
Bryggen is one of Norway’s most iconic sights—Bergen’s postcard-famous row of colorful wooden buildings along the harbor. Travelers will pass this UNESCO-listed waterfront and see the historic architecture that has become a signature image of Bergen and Norway.
Travelers will pass the iconic Nordhordland Bridge, a striking combination of suspension bridge and floating bridge spanning the fjord north of Bergen. Known for its unique engineering and dramatic setting, the bridge is a recognizable landmark and an impressive sight when entering the fjord landscape.
Travelers will cruise through the scenic Osterfjord, a narrow fjord surrounded by steep mountains, waterfalls, and untouched nature. The fjord offers classic Norwegian scenery and a calm, dramatic atmosphere as the journey continues deeper into the fjord landscape.
Mostraumen is where the fjord trip really comes alive. The landscape closes in, the mountains feel suddenly much higher, and the waterway tightens into a narrow passage shaped by strong tidal currents. On the way through, you’ll glide past steep rock walls and spot waterfalls dropping straight into the fjord—often close enough that you’ll want your camera ready. It’s a short stretch, but it’s the part most people remember from the day.

Important Information
- Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller
- Service animals allowed
- Public transportation options are available nearby
- Suitable for all physical fitness levels
- This tour will go in rain or shine. In the winter months, it can happen that the sea freezes in the innermost part of the fjord where there is a lot of fresh water mixed with the sea water, brackish water. If there is so much ice that there is no safe passage for boats, the captain will then choose an alternative route in this area. This is beyond our control and it does not give grounds for claiming a refund for the trip. We will always do our best to give our customers great experiences, even on days when the forces of nature are not easy to handle.

We had such a great experience with Caro, our tour guide in Bergen! Her friendly personality made the tour so enjoyable, and she shared so much great information about Bergen, its history, and the beautiful area around us. She was knowledgeable, personable, and so fun to spend time with. We learned so much and truly enjoyed our time with her. Highly recommend Caro to anyone visiting Bergen!
Wonderful trip with a delightful and informed narrator. We were also lucky to have a sunny, blue-sky day.
Windows are dirty so you can’t see well from inside. You have to be out and make sure you have good winter clothes. Cold and windy. Also the tour guide literally said like 3 sentences in total. Had to make ChatGPT narrate the trip to learn about the fjords
It is very good, everything very comfortable. It even has a cafeteria. But what is explained is not understood very well. And the weather was not very good, but that is no longer up to them. But I highly recommend it 👌🏻
Nice trip through the fjord; despite the rainy weather in the fjord, the views were magnificent. The waterfalls are amazing!
This cruise was enjoyable. The views were amazing. Be sure to arrive at least 40 minutes early so you can get a spot on the top deck.
One view window in the boat was half dirty
Very well organized! The landscapes are spectacular...worth the price of the ticket
Good explanations, beautiful scenery, and central starting point. It is a must see while you are in Bergen
Loved this trip on Eric the Red boat with friendly and helpful guide Carolina on a generally lovely day. Would recommend to anyone seeking a half day fjord cruise.
