This day trip is perfect if you arrive in Merzouga by bus or with your camper and you like to make the most of your stay in the desert city. You can visit all the highlights of the area in one full day with a comfortable 4x4 car.

Itinerary
Start your visit to the area around Merzouga and the land of the Ait Khebbach tribe with pick-up from your accommodation in a spacious and comfortable 4x4 vehicle. Cross desert plateaus far away from concrete roads and visit a Berber family in their tent for lunch. Learn how they live in their tents with goats, sheep and working donkeys, as well as how to prepare a Berber pizza on the fire. Enjoy this delicious communal meal in their home.
Start your desert exploration with a visit to the village of Khamlia. Here, you'll enjoy the inhabitants' music and dance, and have the opportunity to try their instruments and learn to play some desert music of your own!
Afterwards, take a 4x4 down a gravel road to the Lake of Merzouga (also named Lake Tamezguida), which appears seasonally from November to May during the rainy season in Middle Atlas. This is the best spot to see desert birds, and sometimes even flamingos! Return to your accommodation in Merzouga in the late afternoon.

This trip was a lovely experience to get familiar with Sachara desert beautiful ecosystem, local people and culture. We've visited different parts of the desert, gorgeous sand dunes, places with fossils and excavation of minerals, the Beduins nomad camp where we ate delicious local food and drank tea. We've also seen how the gardens are grown in the desert, which is quite amazing. African music and food at the local restaurant were also great. Our guide Said was very welcoming and knowledgible. It was a wonderful day.

We had a great time with our guide Salem. Salem picked us up from our hotel for a very complete excursion: visit to the desert, a nomadic camp, a music school and lunch of a Berber pizza. We highly recommend!

We didn't have much time and decided to hire a 4x4 tour of Merzouga and its dunes. We took a lovely boy named Moha who speaks Spanish and we saw with him what we would not have discovered alone in a week. Plus food included in a very good Berber restaurant. It has been very easy for me to make this review. Highly recommended.
