Memorable private cooking class in Tangier with a local family

This cooking class in a private home was beyond our expectations!! The host was so kind, spoke perfect English, and we guests had so much fun and laughed so much together as we prepared the Moroccan style meal! And after all was prepared, we sat down to eat our creation with the family! It was a thoroughly wonderful time and felt culturally immersive!

Fantastic experience at a private home. Besides learning how to make chicken tangine, Moroccan salad and mint tea , we learned so much about life in Tangier. What a wonderful experience. We felt so welcome and learnt so much during this experience. A highlight not only for Tangier and Morroco but out entire trip around Europe! This experience was a fantastic opportunity to emerse my family in real life Tangier and Moroccan living and culture. Our tour firstly included a trip to the markets to see and experience the lively, bustling stalls and all they have to offer. The sights and smells were incredible especially all the herbs and spices. Chafik also timed the market visit so perfectly that we got to see fresh Tuna fish being brought in to market after watching the fishing boats return to harbor from the Kasbah the day before. During the experience We learnt how to make a beautiful spiced Beef tagine and traditional mint tea in the family kitchen with every step being carefully shown and explained to us. The experience was hands on at each step and they were very engaging with my 2 children aged 9 and 11. We learnt so much including lots of french and Arabic and they did a fantastic job of answering my son's millions of questions not only about the food but Tangier and Morrocco too! After the meal was prepared we got to enjoy a lovely family meal in their beautiful home. We felt very safe, relaxed and welcome. The whole family were helpful, adaptable and accomodating especially for my 2 disabled children. Since leaving Tangier and returning to the UK Tagine is now on our weekly menu at home. Every time we talk about our wonderful experience and time spent in Tangier with Chafik and his family. The whole experience was memorable, enjoyable and perfect for our family. Chafik was nice and helpful, and the experience was so much fun. He led me on a tour of the old Medina and Berber markets, and also took me to a scenic lookout before heading to the cooking lesson. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. It was such a unique and authentic experience to be able to cook with a Moroccan family and eat delicious food inside their home. Loved it!!!

Lovely experience start to finish! I wasn’t able to attend the full class, but I reached out and they tailored a unique experience just for me that fit my schedule - including pick up and drop off at my hotel! The guide was lovely and spoke excellent English. We proceeded to a private home where a chef helped us prepare a traditional Moroccan meal and mint tea. The guide was able to perfectly translate for the chef and it was a wonderful evening. I think it is truly a unique experience to make a “homemade meal” in a foreign country you are visiting. Upon my request they were also able to send me the recipe after the experience. It was very special and I would book it again :)

Young hospitable and welcoming family, perfect English, practical explanations, step by step, on how to cook typical dishes and prepare mint tea, which Moroccans call “Moroccan whiskey”, and blunt answers to our many questions about the daily life of a believer, in a modern city like Tangier. The food was delicious!!! Experience recommended!

We had a lovely dinner as part of this class! Our host was kind and happy to explain the process of cooking. The completed dish was already prepared, cooking-show style, since Moroccan food often takes many hours to make, but we prepped our dish as if we were going to steam it for hours and then immediately went to the table. Dessert and tea were also included and delicious. Overall I'd happily recommend this to anybody who is interested!

We had the most wonderful Beef Tagine at Chafik’s aunt’s house. His cousin graciously translated and helped her aunt at the sous chef. Her English was excellent and they were all very charming and welcoming. The kitchen was so clean and modern, the spices and ingredients were organized, labelled and all was explained to us. The aunt guided us through the cooking. It was an experience I would highly recommend. Food, tea and desserts were sublime!

Guide picked us up and the Medina tour exceeded our expectations. The cooking class was informative and well prepared. We loved the food and the environs.
