Itinerary

Pass by

Ready, set, go! The tour starts in the central Stavanger city harbor, where you’ll get your equipment for the tour along with a safety briefing from your captain. On your way out of the harbor, you will pass by Stavanger from the seaside, a true picture of Norwegian history. The speed starts out gentle, allowing you to take in a full view of the bustling life on the waterfront. Make sure to catch a glimpse of the old city, the Valgberg tower, and the Norwegian Oil Museum.

Pass by

Embark on your adventure to Lysefjorden as you move into the open waters and leave the city astern. Equipped with two four-stroke engines, you’ll skim across the surface at 35 knots, zooming past islets, skerries, and reefs. As you race along, you’ll spot cozy seaside cabins nestled along the shore and some sizeable salmon farms.

Pass by

The Lysefjord, spanning an impressive 42 kilometers, is one of the most famous Norwegian Fjords. Carved by millennia of ice ages, it showcases a dramatic landscape where steep mountains, adorned with lush emerald-green forests and cascading waterfalls, rise sharply from pristine waters. The fjord's name, meaning "The Fjord of Light," is derived from the light-colored granite rocks along its sides. As you venture through its narrow corridor, you’ll be on the lookout for the bustling wildlife that inhabits the region. On a good day it will be possible to spot seals, porpoises, sea eagles, and more.

The notorious Vagabond Cave, known locally as ‘Fantahålå’, is a hidden recess in the fjord’s mountainside tucked away in a narrow cove. Local lore tells of a band of tramps who once hid here to escape the ire of the local sheriff. As the story goes, when he finally caught up to them, they kept him at bay with a rock-solid argument—pelting him with stones until he left them alone. Your captain will navigate the boat right into this hidden pocket in the cliffs, letting your imagination drift back in time to the drama that once unfolded here.

10 min

Sculpted by a melting glacier 10 000 years ago at the end of the last ice age, Pulpit Rock is one of the most famous cliffs in the world and one of the most iconic sights in all of Norway. Your captain will position your boat for a front-row view to admire its gravity-defying cliff-face and tell you the stories of the rock’s special place in Norwegian history. From its discovery and treacherous first ascent by Thomas Peter Randulf over a hundred years ago, to its descent by one Henry Cavill by way of Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible: Fallout.

10 min

As we approach Hengjanefossen, you'll feel the power of nature in all its glory. This waterfall, also known as ‘Whisky Falls’, stands 75m tall and is unique in that it's not a single, uniform fall. Instead, it's a tangle of cascading stream that weave together to create a truly mesmerizing sight. As the water pours down the cliff face, it creates a mist that shrouds the mountainside in an ethereal haze. Your captain will take you right up to the base of the falls, giving you a perspective few people ever get to experience. You can even grab a drink if you're up for it, the runoff is crystal clear, though sadly not as potent as the nickname may suggest. This playful moniker is a nod to a moonshine distillery that once operated in its vicinity, run by a German fellow named Heinrich Mohr.

A very fast thrilling, but safe rib ride, to see the fjords close up from our P&O cruise ship.

A very fast thrilling but safe rib ride to see further into the fjords near Stavanger from our P&O cruise ship. The meeting point was only about 150 metres flat walk from our ship but there are several different companies operating excursions and it took us a few conversations to find ours. Once we established contact the young lady at the tent was very helpful and invited us - my daughter and 9 year old grandson - to don full waterproof overalls and a life jacket. We were all allocated a boat number and our Captain - Captain Graham - then introduced himself. He gave us a full safety briefing before helping us to board the rib and take our seats, rather like sitting on a motorbike with handles at the front. Graham was very friendly and very particular about safety which was really reassuring. After steadily pulling away from the jetty and getting into the main fjord area Graham cut the engine and walked along the rib to give us information about the local area which was very interesting. He then returned to the controls and started our very fast thrilling ride to see more of the spectacular fjord including the Pulpit Rock and amazing waterfalls. We went very close to the side of the fjord walls, under one waterfall and at various points he stopped the engine to give us more local details eg Vagabond Cave. It was a very thrilling and interesting ride which we all thoroughly enjoyed - my grandson identified this as one of the main highlights of the cruise. We are very grateful to Captain Graham for such a wonderful experience and would recommend it to all family and friends when visiting Stavanger.

Roolf is the man

Did this tour on Aug 18 with Roolf. My wife and I felt very safe and comfortable on the RIB. There were 9 people on the tour. The seating was saddle style with grab bars to hold onto and a small zipper pocket on the seat in front suitable for a wallet and phone. There was a compartment up front for larger items. It was a fairly calm day and everyone stayed dry. Roolf stopped the boat several times to discuss what we were seeing. He was very friendly and professional. Before the tour we all donned heavy duty waterproof overalls. Highly recommended!

Great fun!

Great value for the money. Pulpit rock was impressive. Beautiful trip with a wonderful guide who shared local stories. He stopped the boat to show us an eagle, seals and goats and gave us a drink of pure mountain water dripping from the side is the mountain. There was some confusion about pickup place but it was quickly sorted out.

The Boat is very fast. You get up close and personal with two waterfalls and sheer cliffs of Lysefjord. Our guide, Graham, was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Recommended!

Great! Just being in the boat is fun, with that speed and spectacular turns, but you also see such beautiful places. Nice explanation, enough time to take pictures and just watch and enjoy, so highly recommended! The suits are super fine and keep you warm and dry.

Great time

Lots of fun, lot of time out of the water and they provided suits so we stayed warm and a place to keep our bags and coats on the boat. Lots of beautiful sites. Graham gave an exceptional tour.

Very fun excursion. Our...

Very fun excursion. Our boat captain was amazing, just a fun time all around. There was no details on “pick up from cruise port” which created some stress. We were docking in Sandnes, which they do not pick up from. Did not know there was multiple ports, so we were expecting a pick up. Did create additional expense of $100 usd for a taxi ride from Sandnes to Stavanger.

Fun Experience

The RIB boat experience was amazing! Only issues were that we tried calling the company and there was no answer and no call back. The gear was old and dirty. But the boat captain was very nice and the boat ride was fun.
