Itinerary
We begin our journey in one of Lucca’s main squares, bordered by majestic XVI-century palaces. As we cross this vibrant hub, we’ll head towards our first stop to dive into the local culinary delights.
While admiring the beautiful church and the lively square around it, we will taste the first traditional specialty of Lucca, the Buccellato, a sweet bread flavored with fruit and anise.
Next, we’ll make our way through Piazza Anfiteatro, the most iconic and picturesque spot in Lucca. We’ll stroll around this uniquely shaped square, once the site of a Roman amphitheater, before heading to the next stop on our gastronomic journey.
At this characteristic stop in the heart of the walled city, we’ll indulge in a plate of Tordelli, a traditional Lucca pasta filled with meat and herbs, served in a rich, savory sauce. A true taste of the region’s culinary tradition.
As we continue our walk through the charming streets of Lucca, we’ll pass by the iconic Torre Guinigi, a medieval tower with a unique garden at its summit, offering a glimpse into the city’s fascinating history.
In this lovely square, we will stop to enjoy a plate of fresh local cold cuts, perfectly paired with a glass of red wine, while soaking in the lively atmosphere and beauty of Lucca.
On Via Buia, we will sample Cecina, a beloved Tuscan street food made from chickpea flour and served warm and savory. This iconic dish is a true local favorite.
We’ll wrap up our food tour with a sweet treat along Via San Paolino, where we’ll indulge in some local chocolate and a traditional dessert, leaving you with the perfect ending to this delicious exploration of Lucca’s culinary offerings.

Tiziana showed us the unique foods in Lucca and also pointed out the historical places along our walk (most of which can be identified from your own research but it is nice to have someone add to that experience). Each stop always has a different backup because this is Italy and shops can close with little notice, especially in August. Wonderful introduction to Lucca!
This walking tour of Lucca was very informative. The food stops were small, local restaurants that have stood the test if time. The food was delicious and Denia was a fantastic tour guide!
Huge fun experience with our enthusiastic guide. Nice to experience Lucca in a different way
Viatours has never let us down!!!! Sasha was marvellous, incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and great fun. All food stops were brilliant and loved hearing the stories of Luccan/ Tuscan culture and traditions. Great pace and top spots to sit and watch life in Lucca go by whilst enjoying a glass of local wine. Thank you Sasha, you were amazing
Great experience! All the food stops were delicious and appreciated the mini educational historical information sessions along the way. Our guide, Alessandra, was friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. My husband was not able to walk very fast, especially in the August heat wave, but she was very patient and understanding. There were 12 people on our tour and all were lovely people we enjoyed getting to know.
Our guide, Sacha was absolutely amazing! She was very personable, knowledgeable and fun. We had a great time and felt like we were out with a friend not on a tour!
This LUCCA, has 3 restaurants (Cantina, Bistro, restaurant) and also the Casa Italia (Rodice).Excellent in everything.
The food tour was absolutely amazing and one of the highlights of our visit to Lucca. We discovered many delicious local dishes that we would never have tried on our own, and we also learned a lot about the city’s fascinating history and traditions along the way. Our guide, Denia, did a wonderful job. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic, and you could truly feel that she was a local who was passionate about sharing her hometown. Her personal stories and recommendations made the experience even more authentic. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lucca who wants to experience the city’s culture through its incredible food.
Where did the Lucca Italy food tour with my family and the guide Alexandria was marvelous! The food spots were all well thought through. She was very knowledgeable about the history of Luca and we really had a great time. I would highly recommend!
We had a wonderful and tasty time! Denia was extremely helpful and a great guide on the tour. She brought us to very special locations each with their own story. It was very evident she took the time to curate the spots we visited.
