Pass through the breathtaking Serra de Sintra, also known as the Sintra Mountains, a protected natural landscape near Lisbon known for its green hills, dramatic valleys, ancient rock formations, and unique blend of nature, history, and legend.
Hidden near Sintra’s historic center, the Sabuga Fountain is a quiet 17th-century spot known for its fresh, mineral-rich water and local traditions. Long associated with legends of healing and wellbeing, this peaceful fountain offers a charming pause along the route and a glimpse into Sintra’s cultural heritage.
From the mountain road, enjoy a distant view of the Moorish Castle, an ancient fortress whose stone walls stretch across the hills of Sintra. We do not visit the castle or stop at its entrance, but this scenic viewpoint offers a great opportunity to admire its impressive silhouette and understand its historical role in the region.
Visit Pena Palace, Sintra’s most iconic landmark and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your Essential Ticket is included and grants access to the palace interior and surrounding park. Your guide will share historical context throughout the park and terraces, while the palace interior visit is self-guided, allowing you to explore at your own pace.
Enjoy a walking stop in Sintra’s historic center, with time to explore its charming streets, traditional shops, and emblematic squares. This stop offers a relaxed opportunity to experience the village atmosphere, taste local sweets, try a traditional ginjinha, and browse Portuguese artisan shops.

Sintra is a quaint little town. Lots of shopping and restaurant options. Pena Palace was awesome. Our tour guide Leo was wonderful. We would love to have him other future tours.

Roderigo was our tour guide and he was a very knowledgeable and fun tour guide. He took us to Cascais, the Devil Inferno punch bowl to see the waves, then the Western point of Europe. All very interesting. We then continued to Sintra and a tour of the Pena Palace. Very beautiful on a perfect weather day. Lunch at a local restaurant was great with options for local specialties.

Great tour! Our guide Rodrigo was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was easy to coordinate and communicate with. Half day was the perfect length of time to see the pena palace, take pictures and enjoy the sites and scenes of sintra without being too cumbersome.

Daniel was absolutely fantastic and made our trip an unforgettable experience! He was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and flexible, and he went above and beyond to make sure everyone in our group had a great time. He showed us the best spots, took plenty of wonderful pictures of our group of friends, and constantly kept an eye out for what we needed. He even helped navigate alternative routes for those in our group who weren’t able to handle the steep climbs—while giving me a great workout in the process! 😂 What really stood out was how attentive and personable Daniel was. Comments about the organizer: This tour is a great way to maximize your time. Between the transportation, parking, and timed entry tickets it’s quite a logistical mess. This tour arranges all that for you. Our guide deftly managed our time and positioning to always be in the right time and place to keep us moving. That was especially needed since we visited on a very busy Sunday. We did this as a cruise ship excursion. Originally we were to meet at the Hard Rock Cafe which was 2-3km from the ship. Carlos messaged on WhatsApp that he could pick us up from the port directly. So that was a much appreciated convenience. He also managed the time to ensure we didn’t miss our ship’s departure. About the tour: The first stop was the Pena Palace. There’s quite a bit of hilly walking involved. I’d say that the best part was actually the outdoor terraces. You can enjoy the ornamentation, tiles work, and viewpoints from the terraces. There is a timed entry tickets to the interior of the palace. If you were pressed with time I’d say that’s something you could skip. Carlos entrained us throughout with stories of the various royal intrigues associated with the palaces. The next stop was the Quinta de Regaleira. Apparently not every tour selects that option. The site is a labyrinth of constructed tunnels, turrets, and fountains. There was Masonic/Telmplar/illuminati symbols everywhere— some overt, some subtle. I imagine it’s what you’d get if Disneyland made a “Da Vinci Code” attraction. Carlos brought it to online by narrating the (supposed) Masonic secret rituals initiates would endure. The final stop was a drop off to spend about 45 minutes in the historic city center. That was just enough time to get a quick taste of pastries. It was tasty to be sure. But overall the city center was crowded and touristy with nowhere to sit and enjoy our pastry in comfort. Lisbon has quite an eclectic collection of architectures brought in from all over Europe. Sintra even more so. Carlos helped us to understand the history of how each piece came to be. He also had a wealth of knowledge about the flora covering the mountain. Carlos was a great guide who adapted to the needs and interests of his clients. I appreciated how he would help us to take photos amidst all the crowds.
