Let the Bertha’s Beach Penguins Make You Smile

Description
Visit gentoo penguins on a pristine beach during our 5-hour tour. A bit over an hour’s drive from Stanley, Bertha’s Beach will welcome us with its white sands and crystal clear water. The area has been recognized as a wetland site of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. Bertha herself was a ship that didn’t make it, and got wrecked by the shore, losing its precious cargo – planks of cedar wood, scattered on the beach to this day (you will notice there are almost no trees in the Falklands). We will visit the colony of Gentoo penguins - noisy, but fascinating creatures. Lunch on the beach or in the car, your choice, might be a bit windy there. Afterwards we will travel back to Yorke Bay and Gypsy Cove to see even more penguins on the dunes or in burrows(if we are lucky). Lady Liz is a must see landmark in Falklands, you will have a chance to know why. We then show you the highlights of Stanley, the capital city of the Falklands.

Itinerary
Bertha’s Beach is a considered one of the best wildlife sites in the Falklands. It is recognised as a wetland site of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. Bertha’s Beach qualifies as an Important Bird Area (IBA), a global standard set by BirdLife International. It is home to 500 breeding pairs of Gentoo penguins, plus a wide variety of other water birds. If you are lucky, you may see Peal’s and Commerson’s dolphins frolicking in the water. Altogether, it is a special place in the Falklands, and that is why we are proud to offer you this tour.
During this part of the tour we will watch gentoo penguins frolicking on the beach at Yorke Bay. The colony is large, and there is usually a lot going on in penguin community life! We will watch them play, interact with each other, and swim in the sea. If we are lucky, we might even see some visiting king penguins. The route through the dunes on its own provides beautiful sights, you would be forgiven for thinking you are on the moon! You will need to walk about 5 minutes in the sand dunes to visit the penguins at Yorke Bay, so sensible walking shoes are strongly encouraged! Our younger guests tend to enjoy sliding down the sand dunes - please let them wear clothes enabling that!
Gypsy Cove – an idyllic cove with a Caribbean feel to it. On sunny days, the colour of the sea takes your breath away. It is part of a National Nature Preserve, and also home to a colony of Magellanic penguins, on top of plenty of other wildlife. The colony is a short walk up a sloping hill, with gravelled pathways and view terraces on the way.
The Lady Elizabeth is a must see in the Falklands. Uncommonly pretty, she commands the attention, majestic despite having been shipwrecked. If you are lucky enough to see her at low tide, you might even walk over to her, to have a close encounter with Lady Liz.
The southernmost capital city in the world, our little Stanley is a surprisingly lively place. It boasts a cathedral with a famous Whalebone Arch (made of whale jaws), a museum, the governor's residence, and a Liberation Memorial. There are several souvenir shops and cafes ready to welcome you. We will show you the highlights of our city from the car, and will be happy to direct and advise you should you wish to explore further on your own accord.

Excellent food and restaurant service
Very friendly couple, who showed us real wildlife of Falklands. Good 4x4 drivers who took us to remote parts of the island. Hope to come back one day!
Every part of this experience was well organised from being asked in advance what sandwich filling we would like, to Arthur being early on the jetty, the comfort of the vehicle and his knowledge of the Islands, the history of the war in 1982, the route to take to avoid other groups of tourists Saw plenty of penguins, amazing scenery, dolphins. Plenty of time to get out and walk and guided tour of Stanley on way back and dropped off where we chose. I would highly recommend this tour
Great Penguin sightings! Our guide knew exactly where to take us to ensure we saw many penguins! Fun tour that made us smile, even though it was cold, windy & rainy!
Artur brought us to several incredible locations around the Falkland Islands while educating our small group about the beautiful wildlife, scenery and life on the island. The tour included delicious sandwiches, ships, beverages and a sweet treat which were all excellent! I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the Falkland Islands! Absolutely amazing!
Visit of the pinguin locations near Stanley City ať Falklandy Islands. The staff - Marianna and Artur were extraordinary pleasant people and were giving us perfect care.
We were very excited by service and choose of places to visit. People very kind and offer as per our demands
We had a great time with Marianna and Arthur - they were extremely helpful. Pity we didn’t have more time to spend.
We saw three types of penguins, we saw 3 different colony locations, all were stunningly beautiful. We travelled in comfort in a small group and the lunch provided was lovely. Petur was a great guide and helped make the day special.
We are genuinely happy you enjoyed your tour with us (and our lunch)! Thank you for choosing us for your Falklands adventure!
Artur from Lazy Winds did a great job on our excursion. He was prompt, friendly and very knowledgeable of Stanley history and wildlife. We visited Bertha’s Beach and several other stops, see 4 penguin species in 3 habitats. Lunch and the rest of the tour were very well done. This was the best excursion of our S America visits so far. Highly recommended!
We are genuinely happy that you enjoyed your tour with us! We would love to welcome you back again some day!
