We had great communication with our guide -which was important as we were at the mercy of our cruise ship arrival. Our guide & driver, Dimitris, met us in a spotless, air conditioned van with fresh cold water. And from there we had the best day ever! We were able to get into the gorge (breath-taking views), we visited Kalypso Beach, we had lunch at a charming Taverna with home cooked Cretan spécialités ( or could have visited another beach). We learned so much about Crete! The best part was that Dimitris was responsive to our requests and made every effort to accomadate us. It was like touring with a good friend! We loved our day!
We had a fabulous day trip with George visiting the Gorge and Kalypso beach. He has an amazing knowledge of Crete and its history. He gave us options within the trip and looked after our personal belongings whilst we swam in the waterfalls. Very professional and friendly I highly recommend!!
George was an outstanding tour guide. He is extremely knowledgeable and made our experience one we will never forget. The whole day was thought out well and my highlight would be walking the gorge and swimming in the waterfall. I could not recommend George and his tour highly enough.
This experience was wonderful for our family and George was a very informative guide. I learned so much about Crete from him. We started at a small bakery outside of Rethymno (our pick up location) which was absolutely delicious. Then, we drove about 20-30 mins to the gorge. The gorge was beautiful. One thing to note is that in the gorge, there was two pools. The second pool inside the gorge, you have to “swim” (water is about chest/armpit level) to get to. However, for us, the water very cold so it would be good to bring a wet suit (the water so cold that even in the first pool where it’s only calf deep, our legs felt like they were locking up). With that being said, even just seeing the gorge from the first pool, was beautiful and worth it for those that really enjoy nature’s magnificent creations. We then chose Kalypso beach which was probably one of my favorite beaches. It is more of a fjord than the long beaches you are used to in Greece, but the water temp was wonderful and there were cliffs that the kids could jump from. Lastly, we stopped at a small taverna with more traditional Cretan food where they show you the specials of the day inside of the pots they are being cooked in, in the kitchen. Food was delicious and staff was so kind. Highly recommend this tour.
What an incredible experience! George is a great guide and kept us entertained on our almost 90 min ride from our hotel. The gorge is a must do/see experience. Absolutely breathtaking and an adventure. My wife and I originally wanted to go explore Preveli beach but my wife was exhausted after the gorge. We went to kalypso instead and had a blast. It’s beautiful and they have a bar! Highly recommend this experience and SunSud tours!
If you are considering booking this private tour with SunSud Tours, do not hesitate! From start to finish, the entire experience was top-tier. George was an absolute delight to be around. He arrived right on time, fully prepared with cold water for a hot summer day, and treated us to a wonderful stop at a local bakery and coffee spot along the route. Throughout the drive, he kept us entertained and informed with fascinating details about Cretan history and fun facts about the island that you’d never find in a standard guidebook. Swimming at the stunning Kourtaliotiko Gorge waterfalls and exploring Kalypso Beach were absolute highlights, but George taking us to an incredible local taverna at the end really made the day perfect. It was truly an unforgettable experience. Thank you, George and SunSud Tours, for an amazing day! 10/10 recommendation!
George was fantastic and our trip was also lovely. The drive to and from the gorge and beaches was calm and we saw beautiful scenery across Crete. George educated us about Cretan olives trees/farming and history. He is very knowledgeable and we were grateful. We had a pit-stop for a bathroom and a greek coffee. Gorge also shared pasteli, which was delicious. There was also a cute little pup to keep us company - Minos! When we arrived at the gorge, we were told it had been closed due to high winds. George quickly pivoted and offered to take us to both Preveli and Kalypso beaches. Gorge walked us over toward Preveli and encouraged us to take our time and enjoy the beach. It was fantastic! The river was beautiful and the beaches had crystal clear waters. We had a great time. Next, we went to Kalypso. We were able to grab a umbrella and loungers (20 euro - well worth it). The water was chilly, but my husband and son loved it. It was a beautiful location with stunning clear water and rocky cliffs. We enjoyed watching the cliff jumpers, even if we weren't that brave. Gorge warned us not to do anything unsafe! Gorge came to us while at Kalypso and said that they had reopened the gorge. I was so grateful for this as it was one of the primary reasons I booked this tour. I am also grateful to Gorge for letting us know - he didn't have to! We left Kalypso and returned to the gorge. The hike down and up was strenuous. I am very fit and welcomed the cardio, but I think it was a challenge for my mother-in-law & husband. My son, age 12, had no issue, either. I knew the water would be cold, but I was still surprised at how cold! I desperately wanted to swim through, but my body is very sensitive to cold and I start losing blood flow to my fingers and toes quickly. It was still beautiful from the waist deep waters and I am so grateful that I got to see it. It was a good experience. George made our day perfect - we saw it all - both beaches & the gorge. We got to see everything we wanted and more! Thank you Gorge!

We had an amazing time on this trip. The gorge and beach were beautiful. On our way back, we enjoyed a delicious lunch with stunning views. I would thoroughly recommend.
George was amazing! We were coming from the cruise port and he was very thorough with the meeting spot and time. On the drive to the gorge, George provided so much history and neat facts about Crete. The drive went by quickly and we all learned so much. At the gorge, George hiked down with us and then watched our belongings as we all swam. Even though it’s cold, definitely do the swim to the waterfall. Afterwards he took us to Kalypso Beach which was beautiful and so cool! We snorkeled and rented a lounger there. We ended the day at the most delicious taverna! They took us into the kitchen to see dishes being made that were not on the menu. It was the best meal of the trip! George kept us right on schedule and had us back with a nice cushion before the cruise departed. We absolutely loved this excursion and our day with George. I would highly recommend it!
