Kauai: Luau Kalamaku with Buffet Dinner and Show

Description
Welcoming guests to Kauai since 2007, Luau Kalamaku is Hawaii's only luau show performed “in-the-round,” offering optimal views of the stage. Witness the unearthing of the pig from the traditional imu (underground oven) and enjoy a hula lesson. A craft fair featuring unique items by local artisans awaits on the sprawling lawn. Feast on a delicious buffet of local and familiar favorites and enjoy a Mai Tai from the open bar. The main show tells the amazing story of the ancient Hawaiian legend of Kalamaku “child of the new land." Through laughter, fear, seduction and fire, a new legacy is created, born from the cherished seeds of their ancestors. The theatrical luau show culminates with a fantastic fire dream featuring fire poi balls and traditional fire knife dancing.

The show was A++++. Very talented group and entertaining! Respect for the culture increased greatly! The food wasn’t good. The show made it worth it.
Overall, we enjoyed our evening at Luau Kalamaku. It was a fun environment, with a very big, very open covered dining area with the stage set in the middle. There was live music going on before and during dinner which was loud enough that it made it a little hard to get to know the others at our table (tables have seating for 10), which made things a little socially awkward. We were informed the event started at 5:30, but they didn't serve the food until sometime after 6:00. It would have been nice to have been informed how much time we had to look around at the local vendors' booths before dinner. The process of serving the food was very smooth, and proceeded very quickly. High marks there. Plus, it was all you can eat. Most of the food was very good, but not great. And the chicken was very tough. The entertainment after dinner was very good. Mostly excellent hula dancing and some very talented fire dancers, with little talking or narration, which made the storyline of the presentation a bit confusing. It made more sense after we read the printed program. The program lasted about 50 minutes which seemed a little short. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves, but we probably wouldn't go again. It felt rather overpriced, in large part, I think, because of the open bar which we did not utilize. It might be more worthwhile if they had a lower cost option for non-drinkers.
Outstanding, as usual. A strong story about the arrival of the Hawaiians into the islands.
Great show and a great atmosphere! Food was pretty middle of the road. Open bar had great tenders.
Beautiful setting. Staff were all welcoming, hardworking, and service was fantastic. The show itself was the best. I loved that it told the story about the people of Hawaii. Wonderful experience overall!
Extremely disappointed in this luau. We paid for premium seating and were the last table selected for dinner. By the time we got up to buffet, many selections were already gone and they weren’t refilling anymore. We barely filled up one plate and definitely didn’t get a chance for any . The show was OK, but it was a very hot pavilion as airflow was not circulating across the large space. We were also told to arrive right at 5 PM as there was a lot of vendors that would be set up selling local items. That was not the case – maybe seven vendors to choose from. Given how much we paid I would have expected more.
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry your experience did not meet expectations and appreciate you taking the time to share your comments with us. Mahalo.
Great fun, very entertaining. Good food, drinks, and atmosphere
Thank you for joining us! We’re glad you enjoyed the food, entertainment, and overall experience.
Before the luau you can check out local crafts for sale, pose for photos, enjoy the generous open bar, the live Hawaiian music, and a big variety of typical hulas being danced. The covered open-air venue is very large with many people and they work hard to have everyone get the best view from their seat. Everything is managed easily including the buffet lines which are short and move quickly. There is a big variety of food, pretty tasty. You are sure to find foods that deserve a second serving. The show is a history story with a wide variety of hulas, costumes, and drama. The sound is good , the lighting and sets are beautiful. The dancers work very hard to make a great show. They deserve strong applause at the end from all who decided not run out to their cars. How rude.

Wonderful experience. Did the train ride prior to the luau it was really worth the time we learned about the history of the plantation and different things about the island. The train stops so you can feed wild boar and horses, and a donkey which was a highlight for the kids. Highly recommend this luau and the entire experience. The show was beautiful. The food was delicious. They’re extremely organized. They have vendors on property prior to the luau that you can visit that are artisans that have beautiful handmade goods.

I have been to many luaus. This was by far the best one. The performers, story, and food were wonderful. It was highly organized and entertaining. The setting on the plantation was gorgeous. The train ride was fun with the kids. It was perfect in every way.
