Itinerary
As you may enter working mosques, please dress modestly – long, loose clothes that cover arms and legs – and wear shoes that are easy to remove: women should also bring a scarf to cover their hair. Please note that a few sites close to the public at 5pm. You'll start your tour of some of the highlights of historic Cairo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, by strolling through the Citadel, built by Saladin, founder of the Ayubbid dynasty.
As you only have 2-5 hours for this tour, you'll admire most of the sites from outside: either choose 3 to 4 monuments to visit or ask your guide for recommendations. From the citadel, you'll see the Mosque of Sultan Hassan, the Refaie Mosque, the Giza pyramids (if it's not foggy), the Ibn Tulun Mosque (the oldest mosque in the city surviving in its original form, and the largest mosque in Cairo in terms of land area), and the famous Cairo tower.
Pause for a while to absorb the full scale of the Giants: Sultan Hassan & Refaie religious archaeological complex, built at the middle of the fourteenth century.
Stroll through the Alabaster mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, Cairo's best-preserved & most iconic, most beautiful mosque, to the al-Nasir Muhammad mamluk Mosque. Enjoy a feast of historic religious & military architecture as you admire the monuments inside this great fortress.
You'll finish your tour with a couple of Cairo's better-known mosques: the Mosque of Abu Dahab (the father of Gold. A wealthy ottoman army leader who once "or more than once" threw gold over the poor as means of charity, hence his name), and the 10th-century al-Azhar Mosque, home to one of the oldest surviving Islamic universities in the world.
Your final stop is the notorious downtown: you may wish to enjoy lunch or a non-alcoholic drink at one of the famous Restaurants and Cafes of this lively vivid buzzing Cairo City Center (the Paris along the Nile) Downtown, Cairo.
The Citadel of Cairo or Citadel of Saladin is a medieval Islamic-era fortification in Cairo, Egypt, built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and further developed by subsequent Egyptian rulers. It was the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Its location on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near the center of Cairo commands a strategic position overlooking the city and dominating its skyline. At the time of its construction, it was among the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects of its time. It is now a preserved historic site, including mosques and museums.

We spent a great half day touring the major mosques and Islamic sites of Cairo. Muhammad, with great knowledge, being a Muslim himself and an ex-librarian with great language skills (Japanese among others), gave us all the info we could have wanted. He thus immersed us in the history and rites of the Islamic Egyptian culture and religion with great patience, a fine feeling for our rhythm of experiencing the sites, in a joyful friendly manner. We felt very safe and well taken care of during our visit. The driver was great, too, very skillfully navigating the exhausting Cairo rush- hour traffic. Highly recommended!
Our tour guide Iman was terrible. Her English was very limited and we could barely understand her. She also didn't seem to know much about the history of the most important mosques in Cairo. She even had the nerve to ask for MORE tip even though I gave her $100 EGP. Would definitely not recommend unless you have a different tour guide. We were very disappointed.
Mohamed was an exceptional guide in Egypt. His deep knowledge of Egyptian islamic history and culture enriched our experience at every site we visited. He was courteous, professional, and went out of his way to ensure we had a memorable trip. Mohamed's passion for sharing the wonders of his country and religion made our journey truly unforgettable. Highly recommended!

We have spent two days with Mo as a guide and it has been spectacular, without him we would not have known all the corners of Cairo and the charm of this city, which we have managed to see from within. The involvement he puts in explaining the story to you is incredible because you rating him doing what he likes. He speaks very fluent Spanish and English. I recommend doing any tour with him because he does not disappoint, and following all his recommendations has been a great help. If I return to Egypt, I would not hesitate to contact you.
Muhammad Swefy was a pleasure to tour with. Had such a deep, deep knowledge of the town and it's history that he really brought the ancient buildings, sights and smells to life! Great guy, great English (fwiw),and a super knowledgeable, friendly, not-shady dude!!

Dear valued customer. Thank you for your time to write such a great review. Looking forward to seeing you again soon, Thank you for choosing Cairo Trips Warm regards, Mo
We met Muhammad by chance and were surprised not only by his excellent guide, but also by his kindness and selfless help. He showed us some of the highlights of the Islamic center and took us to charming places, where local people go, that as tourists we could not have reached. He was in charge of finding transport for us and agreeing on prices, all as the local people do. Although his main working language is English, he performs well in Spanish. If I returned to Cairo, I would ask Muhammad to join us on our adventures!
Muchas gracias 🙏 Yo espero para verle otra vez. Warm regards, Mo
