Humans of Amsterdam - Unique Cultural Walking Tour

Description
Join us on what countless guests have called their best travel experience ever. This is not a standard walking tour. It’s a carefully designed four-hour cultural immersion into Amsterdam — combining iconic neighbourhoods, structured history, and two curated local encounters. You’ll explore the Jordaan, the UNESCO-listed canal belt, and the Old City Centre while learning how trade, migration, and pragmatism shaped the city. Along the way, you’ll sit down twice with real Amsterdammers whose lives reflect topics like the city is famous for. Think the bicycle culture, the Red Light District, entrepreneurship, living on water, coffee shop culture and more. Halfway through, enjoy warm Dutch apple pie and a drink in a traditional brown café. Limited to max 8 guests, this experience is designed as the most complete first introduction to Amsterdam — giving you context, connection, and a deeper understanding of the city.

Itinerary
Amsterdam is one of the most liberal cities in the world. No wonder it was the first city worldwide to legalise gay marriage. Our meeting point is the Homomonument where you'll learn why we have this wonderful Monument and what role it plays for us and the world.
The biggest church in Amsterdam, built 1619 – 1631, the Western Church, is the most important Protestant church in the city, while its bell tower – the Westerkerk Tower built 1619 – 1631- Dutch: Westertoren, remains until today the pride of Amsterdam, regarded by many, as the city symbol.
Learn about our fascinating cannabis culture through the story of Ludo, the owner of the Paradox. It's one of Amsterdam's best and cosiest coffeeshops. World traveller, Anthony Bourdain, was one of its many fans.
Amsterdam's waterways are now known as de Grachtengordel (the Canal Belt) and are recognized as a UNESCO heritage site. During this experience, you'll see some of the most beautiful and picturesque canals and canal houses.
Visit one of Amsterdam's most beautiful 200-year-old brown bars and experience our Amsterdam lifestyle, "gezelligheid" (cosiness). You'll also enjoy one of Amsterdam's best apple pies and a beverage here.
During this experience, you'll visit Amsterdam's world-famous red light district. We'll share the personal story of Rose, one of Amsterdam's sex workers, and show you the interior and features of a real-life brothel through video.
We'll end our experience with a toast at Amsterdam's most "honest bar". Here we'll share the inspiring story of Fer, the owner, and how he started this microbrewery with a mission.

Silver took us on a fun tour of the city. Great stories about real life in Amsterdam. Got to talk with a sex worker which was terribly interesting!
I highly recommend this tour if you are interested in getting to know the culture and people of Amsterdam and The Netherlands. Our tour guide Silvur was the absolute best, very engaging, entertaining, and funny. He was born and raised in Amsterdam and shared a lot of knowledge with us. We also met interesting people from Amsterdam in the tour as well and heard their stories (a transgendered sex worker from the Red Light District and another woman born and raised in Amsterdam who discussed what it was like growing up and living in Amsterdam). Overall this was my favorite tour of all the tours I took this week.
Alex, the owner and tour guide for my tour, was amazing! She not only shared her love for Amsterdam, showed us amazing places, shared rich history, and allowed us to meet 2 amazing locals, but the tour was organized and had clear instructions/expectations on where to meet and what to expect. The price was affordable and well worth it. Tour was about 4-5 hours long and was a miles of walking with some stops to sit and chat/learn. And most of all, I appreciate how Alex took time to get to know everyone in our small group and learn where we are from. Will definitely book another tour with them on my next trip to Amsterdam.
From the very beginning, everything was effortless. Alexandra replied promptly, answered all of our questions, and made the booking process incredibly smooth. Before the tour, she sent us a detailed confirmation with exactly where to meet, when, and what to expect. It was one of the clearest confirmations we've ever received, and we really appreciated not having to follow up with additional questions. She even met us at our hotel, which was such a thoughtful touch. The tour itself exceeded our expectations. Alexandra was warm, cheerful, and genuinely kind. More than showing us the city, she helped us understand Amsterdam—its people, its culture, and the way of life here. She shared stories, personal anecdotes, local insights, and so many recommendations that continued to improve the rest of our trip. It felt much more like spending the morning with a knowledgeable local friend than following a traditional tour. One of the highlights was meeting a local resident during the tour. It added such a personal dimension to the experience and made everything feel authentic rather than scripted. By the end of the tour, we weren't just familiar with Amsterdam—we appreciated it in a completely different way. If you're looking for more than a list of landmarks and want to truly connect with the city, we couldn't recommend Who Is Amsterdam Tours more highly.
Our tour guide, Silver, was a genuine Amsterdam local who combined city and personal history to provide a rich and fun experience. We met with a shop owner in Jordaan and a former sex worker in the Red Light District who both shared about their lives as well. We stopped at a bruin cafe for amazing apple pie and beer and then at another bar for beer later. I went on the tour as a solo woman and felt safe and welcomed the entire time by my fellow tourists and tour guide alike! I’m so glad I found this tour and I will be recommending it to everyone I know who visits Amsterdam.
Silver was amazing!! Very informative and personable. Kept us engaged and gave amazing information regarding the history of amsterdam!
Sliver was great! Our group was small so no "following a flag" or hearing "we are walking, we are walking". We learned lot about the history of Amsterdam and the Netherlands. He also gave us insight on the culture which we really loved. Even our teenager was engaged! The Dutch apple pie!!!! At the end, our meeting with Sunny topped it off.
I think that it would have been nice to start walking a little before our first interaction with Warren. I also thought that Warrens story was super interesting but it felt a little long.
BOOK IT! INCREDIBLE!!!! Silver was absolutely amazing! Thank you to Warren and Sonny for sharing your lives with us.
A amazing tour that exceeded expectations. Really incredible and highly recommend it for a unique experience
