Itinerary
Looking like something drawn from the nightmarish imaginings of the latest Stephen King thriller, the Ho Thuy Tien abandoned waterpark, Hue, Vietnam is an eerie monument to an unrealized dream.
Vong Canh itself is now covered with pine trees and daisy. Once, there was a purpose-built watching tower on the top of the hill, though only parts of its foundation remain until today. Besides, Water plant Van Nien – which is the oldest in Central Vietnam and an Oriental-styled building designed by French architecture, just 300m from Vong Canh, is also a visit-worthy destination.
The oldest pagoda in Hue is Thien Mu Pagoda whose establishment is associated with the early actions of the first Nguyen Lord in Dang Trong (South Vietnam). This legend relates how, when Nguyen Hoang was sent to Thuan Hoa (now Central Vietnam) to rule this area, he himself made a survey of the terrain to choose a site for settling down. As he rode his horse upstream along the Huong River side he saw a small hillock beside the river, whose terrain looked like a dragon turning its head back. This hill was called Ha Khe. The local people told a story that every night an old lady in a red blouse and green trousers appeared here saying that a true Lord would come to this place and build a pagoda for the prosperity of the country. Thus this place became known as Thien Mu Son (Heavenly Lady Mountain).
Located by the bank of An Cuu canal, An Dinh palace used to be the private residence of Nguyen Phuc Buu Dao (later the king Khai Dinh). This construction was renovated in modern style between 1917-1919 and officially became the residence of the crown-prince Vinh Thuy (later Bao Dai king). Luna gave me a tour of the city. She explained everything to me, and it was very interesting to have the city shown to me by a local. Highly recommended.
We had two guides Luna and Sunny. They were so kind and helpful, showed us some delicious local food and helped us get to our next destination. Very safe riding they took care of us. Would recommend for a nice experience of local culture !
Had a great time exploring different parts of Hue and learning about the history of each location along with personal anecdotes from Luna. She also mentioned several restaurants to visit while in Hue. Highly recommend this tour as a solo traveller!
We had a great and eventful afternoon with Sunny and were in places away from the hustle and bustle. Very varied
It was a great bike tour. The tour schedule was very flexible and took me wherever I wanted to go. I would recommend it to people traveling alone. Thank You Luna!!
We went with Sunny & Luna on a private tour today on the back of their bikes, we had a wonderful half day seeing sights, most of them that I have never seen before on my many trips to Hue for example the abandoned water park, Sunny & Luna were fun to travel with & very knowledgeable about their countries history, this is a very cost effective tour, we only went to 1 place that we had to pay admission to (50,000d) all the rest were free. Would highly recommend this tour to anybody who is looking for something a little bit different to the usual tours.
Great, affordable, and safe option to explore the city with a local! I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a way to get to know Hue and its history, but especially recommend it for young tourists to connect with other young people who hold fresh perspectives. My partner and I (age 23) did a half day tour and Luna was very knowledgeable and offered to customize the tour based on our interests. She also recommended places for us to check out on our own. Even on a rainy day, we really enjoyed our experience with wonderful company.
Julie is the best!! I had such a great time with her, honestly just felt like hanging out with a friend who’s taking me to see cool things in her city. She has anazing English and is so nice and knows everything. 100% recommend.

I had only one day in Hue and I am glad I have chosen this afternoon tour with Sunny. It was very pleasant and fun to visit some really nice spots in Hue. Sunny is a very smart young Guide with great knowledge about the place, history, and culture of Vietnam. I recommend this tour as the first thing to do when staying in Hue. I truly recommend it.
