Your tour starts in Auckland - New Zealand’s largest city. As we drive out of the city, your guide will not only set the scene for your adventure but also point out some of the city’s top highlights.
Exiting Auckland we travel south through the stunning Waikato countryside, the most extensive farming area in the world, encountering beautiful scenery, mighty rivers, great photo opportunities, impressive mountains and several farm animals along the way.
Arriving at ‘Hobbiton’ you will board one of the big green Hobbiton buses for a 2.5 hour fully-guided tour of this amazing 12-acre movie set with a professional Hobbiton guide to ensure you get the most out of your visit. During your tour step into the lush pastures of the Shire, visit 44 hobbit holes, see amazing gardens, hear the secrets and stories about the making of the movies, and enjoy a cold complimentary beverage at the famous Hobbiton pub ‘The Green Dragon Inn’.
Sadly we must start to head north again but your day is not over with a fully guided return trip to Auckland including surprise stops. Depending on weather and timing our guides love doing other surprise stops. Maybe a scenic stop near a lake or the chance to try New Zealand ice creams, we love introducing you to local wildlife and animals. You will have to jump on the tour to see where you go!

It was a wonderful day and the great organization made it very relaxing for us. On the way our tour guide Alessandro shared a lot of stories about the landscape and the founding of Hobbiton in particular. It was very interesting and entertaining. The van was super comfortable and water and snacks were provided.

Great tour, Grant picked us up and drove us to Hobbiton. I can't recommend Grant highly enough, very considerate, informative and friendly. He also likes ABBA. Lydia was our tour guide, she was really good , informative, cheerful and friendly. It's a very well organised outing and it's highly recommended for all LOTR fans, Peter Jackson fans and people who just like a nice day out. Beautiful NZ scenery and Sam Gamgee's house! The ale is good also at the Green Dragon Inn.

I generally enjoyed my tour of Hobbiton. The tour guide Grant was helpful in informing my group about Auckland and a few facts about The Lord of the Rings series. He was invested in our safety and comfort. We also stopped by at a rest stop in between Auckland and Matamata where Hobbiton was located. I liked the Hobbiton experience except for a few minor aspects in the area. I would recommend it to any fans of The Lord of the Rings.

We had a wonderful visit to Hobbiton thanks to our fabulous guide, Jeoff! He went above and beyond by providing us with other travel advice in New Zealand. His knowledge of New Zealand and the history of the country is impressive. Hobbiton is a must see even if you are not a Lord of the Rings fan. The details involved in building and maintaining the set are first class. The rolling hills and working farm surroundings are lovely.
