Our historical visit to Marigot allows us to understand to travel through time and space as we stroll through the centuries, revealed by Marigot's streets and buildings. In one hour thirty, we travel from the 17th century to today. We discover how the capital of French St.Martin has evolved through time, uncovering the history of the whole island and painting the story of a typical Caribbean town: from dirt roads to asphalt, from donkeys and horses to cars, from wooden houses to concrete buildings. You will be guided through the streets of Marigot by Stéphie, passionate about St.Martin's history. We will stop at several points in the city to learn more about Marigot's past. Keep your eyes open, traces of the past are all over the city!

The journey begins in the parking of the Fort Louis, in Marigot, french side of Saint-Martin. Our guide will introduce you to Marigot over the years while overlooking the beautiful view.
After a quick stop at the old prison, then the famous church Roman Catholic Church Marigot, your guide Stephie will introduce you to the rue de la République with its creole architectural houses.
On this street, learn all about the famous movie that was filmed there, an elementary school turned into a public service, the Methodist church cherished during colonization and destructed by hurricane Irma, and the secrets gems of the courthouse.
In the garden of the Collectivité of Saint-Martin, learn more about the stories of each mayor and their elections.
You will reach the end of this important Street of the French side where culture comes alive. By the way, there are two main buildings on this street that have been maintained for decades. Which ones are they? What were they used for?

We were very disappointed when our tour was canceled the day of the tour. We were told that there was a parade that happens once a year that ended by 5pm. That is when our tour would have begun. If it is such an important parade, they should have canceled long before this date, or not even made this date available to begin with. We would have been able to find a different tour for this day then. But we had no time to do so.

We also proposed an alternative date, but unfortunately it did not work for you as it was after your departure. I completely understand your disappointment and I am sincerely sorry that this affected your plans. Stephie is a passionate person. We went for a 2h ride without seeing time pass. Fortunately there is this kind of excursion to learn more about the city, because the museum no longer exists. I recommend!
The Marigot tour that Stéphie suggests is a superb walk which allows you to delve into the past and understand the evolution of the center of the island as well as the very important relationship between this district of the island and the others.
