The fort itself is one of the greatest medieval fortifications in India — 15 large towers, 51 small towers and 446 openings across 11 kilometres of walls, with an acoustic system so precisely engineered that a single hand clap at the base gate is clearly audible at the royal apartments 90 metres above. The Qutub Shahi Tombs nearby are the mausoleums of the seven kings who built Golconda, set in gardens where even criminals who took refuge were traditionally pardoned. The architectural blend of Persian, Pathan and Hindu styles is found nowhere else in India. Built in AD 1143 as a mud fort, it was fortified between the 14th and 17th centuries and served as the principle Palace of the Bahmani Sultans and the Qutub Shahi dynasty. Our guide will bring alive the history of this Fort and how it shaped the future of Hyderabad and its people
Our next destination in the half day Hyderabad tour is the Qutub Shahi Tombs were erected in the memory of the old kings of Golconda. The arch, columns, dome minarets, and galleries look exquisite and are surrounded by gardens called Ibrahim Bagh. As per legend, these tombs were revered during the rule of the Qutub Shahi Kings and even criminals taking refuge here were pardoned.

Shashi was an amazing guide! She shared so much, not just during the tour but from the moment she picked us up. She shared lots of detailed information about the sites but also about the culture and the city itself. She also brought us to a very local and authentic tea house, where we had the best cookies of our life! It is a bit expensive for a half day tour; but compared to other cheaper tours we did in other cities, this one was by far the best! It was an unforgettable tour which we can’t but recommend!

My husband and I booked this tour as a way to learn some of the history of the city. “Jolly Jon”, our tour guide, picked us up in a car with a driver and took us to see the fort and nearby tombs of the royal family. Absolutely fascinating! Jon is passionate about sharing the history of his city and country. We were really able to envision life in the fort and surrounding area. This was a tour we won’t forget and would highly recommend.
