Had high expectations of river fishing on the Kenai only to find out once there that instead of fishing we would be trying to snag fish! The operator when booking the trip didn't explain that this was the type of so called fishing we would be doing. only found that out the day I showed up. Prior to the trip I was informed that I would need a fishing license along with a king salmon stamp but as date neared I was told I wouldn't need that stamp as that fishing had been closed. The whole trip was very unfulfilling and a waste of money along with a half days vacation. Our group snagged 4 fish and was a very disappointing trip.
Hi L9592BKrayl, Please call Christie, a booking agent at 907*279*FISH (3474) We will be happy to assist you with your concern and resolve this matter. It is critical for us to hear from you, and we look forward to hearing from you.
Great day on the river. Early start and I should have brought an extra layer, but still a great time with Dean. Everyone caught at least one fish in our small group.
A huge thank you to Rusty, our exceptional guide, who allowed us to discover strategic locations. Although the beginning of the day took some time to get going, every moment spent with him was worth it. After exploring several spots, he led us to a calmer arm, where each drift turned into an encounter with the fish. It was a magnificent afternoon, rich in emotions and successes. I can only recommend this experience!
Before I start I want to give you a little history. I’m from Hawaii and I grew up fishing on the shoreline. Shoreline fishing in Alaska has been on my bucket list. Catching would be a bonus but I know fishing is not guaranteed catching. Now about the tour. I picked this company because they seemed the most personable and easy to work with. I was concerned about “fly fishing” since I’ve only used a rod/reel or straight pole. They said they would teach us but would bring a rod/reel just in case that was my choice. They did say using a rod/reel is more difficult but they would help me if that was my choice once we got there. We met at the pier and were fitted with waders. Again, I grew up in Hawaii so I’ve never used waders. When they said to dress warm they weren’t joking. We had thermals under our jeans and wool socks. It was okay but next time I would use thicker thermals and thicker socks. It was also nice to have a raincoat and a hat in case of rain. We rode out to the fishing spot. Our guide Chris had to drive to a few spots to find a good one since some were full. Plus talking to other guides he could find out which areas were better. Once we got to the location we were given lessons. I learned that we weren’t “fly fishing”. We were using a fly rod and snagging. The fly rod was used more like a regular rod/reel. It was a lot easier than I thought. Water in the Kenai was flowing pretty good so you have to be ready for the current. We were added with another large group so we had 3 boats together. The other group had younger kids and I was wondering how they could handle the current but the guides stayed with the kids and they did fine they even caught fish. If you have kids I’d feel comfortable recommending this charter. Our guide Chris was very helpful to our group with suggestions and recommendations and cheering us on. This year fishing as a whole wasn’t that great but I was lucky to catch a sockeye to bring home. He said normally people are bringing up fish left and right but this year if you looked around nobody was really catching. It still was really was a good experience and I had fun. When it was time to leave they cut it up and put it into a bag for us. They also have an option to freeze and send it home for a cost. Now the part everyone wants to know. Would I recommend them? Yes!! Would I go out with them again? Yes!!
This is a company that has integrity, and I will book with them again.
An amazing experience with a fabulous guide who was very knowledgeable and experienced. The highlight of the trip was catching both King Salmon, and a Sockeye salmon👍😎 Christie at the office was beyond accommodating, professional, and personable. Highly recommend this excursion to anyone who visits Kenai Peninsula for fishing. We are planning to return for another excursion with this company! Thank you Chris for a great time out on the river🙏
These guys know where the fish are. Friendly and knowledgeable guides. Jason and Michael offered great guidance but gave us plenty of space to let us get the experience of fishing on our own. Everyone in the group caught fish, including a first-timer.
Booked with king of the river for a driftboat/flyfish 5 hr on kasiloff. Our family was a total of 5 with 3 teenage girls. Our guides were Jason and Mike. Both super good guides. We started out at about 11am and were fishing in about a 1/2 hour. Fishing started out slow and we moved to the other side of the river. That is when it got interesting. We were flossing and we immediately started catching salmon. My 1st fish was about 8-9 lbs. We all limited out during our trip. We decided to keep the fish and have them frozen and packed for the plane. Jason and Mike cleaned and filleted the fish on the sandbar we were fishing from. I asked my kids what was their favorite excursion on our Alaska adventure (we did alot) and they all said fly fishing. My kids will have that memory and all the pics and videos forever. We had a great time and highly recommend the guide service!

Rusty was our guide, he did a lot of hard work on the front end and the back end. He was very knowledgeable of the river. We were too early to catch the king, but I did catch a dolly. It rained it was cold, it was Alaska. It was amazing from Chicago once in a lifetime. Kristy, the coordinator was amazing. She was very proactive on expectations and communication. The fishing equipment was amazing. They offered us rain suits on board when it started to pour rain. I would definitely recommend this trip, with this team!
