Itinerary

15 min

We've now been on the road for just over half an hour, time for a short break. We stop at Bjørkheim Cafe, from where we have a fantastic view of the Fjord. There are public toilets here and a cafe. We stay here for 15 min.

10 min

Fossen Bratte means steep waterfall and that is a statement: The river Eikedalselva thunders down in a single drop over 79 meters. We also make a short photo stop at this waterfall and then drive a few hundred meters along the old road to get an impression of what it was like to drive on Norwegian roads in the good old days.

25 min

The Steinsdalsfossen waterfall near Norheimsund is spectacular. You can walk along the back of it without getting wet. Steinsdalsfossen was formed when the river sought a new course in 1699 and has a height of approx. 50 m. A path leads behind the waterfall so that you can get between the rock face and the water without getting wet, it is one of the most visited waterfalls in Norway. The tourist information and public toilets are located directly at the car park. A short path over an old stone arch bridge then leads you to the waterfall. If you like, you can also stop off at a cosy café located directly behind the bridge and listen to the rushing of the stream. We stay here a little less than half an hour, the journey time to our next stop in Norheimsund is only about 10 minutes

45 min

Discover the picturesque town of Norheimsund, beautiful located on the Hardangerfjord. Enjoy the picturesque views and charming ambience. In Norheimsund there are several restaurants and also a small shopping center with a bistro. We stay at this place for about 45 min, enough time for a short lunch break. The driver will show you where the bus will leave later.

20 min

After a drive of about 40 minutes, always along the Hardangerfjord, we reach the ferry in Kvandal. The ferry departs at 2 p.m., the crossing takes only 20 minutes. There are bathrooms and a small kiosk on the ferry. From the upper deck you can make wonderful photos. It is a wonderful experience.

The ferry then docks in Utne. Step into a picturesque wonderland as you arrive in the enchanting village of Utne on the Hardangerfjord. Preserving its old-world charm with well-kept streets and traditional wooden houses, Utne offers a rare glimpse into a bygone era. Gaze upon the spectacular views of the fjord, marvel at the 300-year-old Utne Hotel, and immerse yourself in the peaceful ambiance of this secluded gem.

15 min

We take a break in the village of Herand and stop at a small marina, beautifully situated on the Hardanger Fjord. There is a self-service kiosk and also public washrooms. The onward journey to the ferry quay in Jondal is only 15 minutes.

15 min

The route from Utne to Jondal is a scenic drive along the Hardangerfjord on road 550. The distance between the two towns is about 36 km and the drive takes about 35 minutes. Along the way we can enjoy the beautiful scenery and admire the orchards that are characteristic of the region. This trip is highly recommended for anyone who wants to explore Norway's beautiful nature. We will make photo stops along the way as often as weather and time permit.

20 min

Ferry from Jondal to Tørvikbygd cross the main arm of the Hardangerfjord here. There are bathrooms and a self-service café on the ferry. You can also go to the upper car deck and take photos from there. The landscape is stunning. The crossing takes about 20 min.

20 min

The ferry docks in Tørvikbygd. From here, we make our way directly to Bergen.

Canceled with no notification

Tour was canceled and I was not notified, although the company claimed they notified Viator. Waited gut over sn hour. Had to spend $12 to call the company and find out the tour was canceled. Neither them nor Viator told me. Viator kept sending me reminders of the tour up to the tour starting time. Ruined out day as all other tours were gone and we were left with nothing to do. Wasted our precious day in Bergen. No apologies or explanations from either company. The worst tour experience of our lives. Extremely disappointed with both. Was told that I will get a refund. Visitor should give us additional credit for their major screw up!

Operator response

Hi Ivette, and thank you for your feedback! We are so sorry about the tour being cancelled. We did send you notice of this one month before your tour on the 24th of July letting you know about this in the Viator chat, and offered you to book on another date. We sent you a new message with a reminder on 11th of August as well. Since we hadn't heard anything, and didn't want to cancel in case you wished to rebook thats why it was not cancelled until you replied to us. We issued a full refund for you the same day we heard from you. In the messages we explained everything on why it was cancelled etc. Sorry to hear that you for some reason did not read these messages in time. The other guests on this tour got the messages and replied to us right away. Best regards, Fjordrive Tours

Great way to see fjords and interior

Loved it! I’ll be honest; I didn’t read the description closely enough, and I thought this was a boat tour. It is not, but most of the tours are driving ones like this. I think I enjoyed a lot more than I would have a boat tour because we really got to see so much of the interior. The tour guide, Geir, was fantastic. He hit the mark on talking us through the sites and also giving us quiet time. He was fantastic.

Great day with Thomas

We spent the day with Thomas on this lovely 8.5 hr tour on a Mercedes minibus. He was an excellent driver/ guide who gave a detailed history of the country and our route. Many stops were very scenic , with cafe's and wc . The ferries were fun and lunch was good. A great way to see many small towns.

A long day

It was a good trip with lots of lovely waterfalls but it was just too long on a bus. The day just was terribly draining.

Great guide and really saw the countryside

Tomas was an amazing guide giving great information about what we were seeing along with his knowledge of Norway and their way of life. He stayed with the group eating with visitors and truly got to know the passengers. He made the trip as it was quite a bit of van travel. Warning if narrow, winding roads bother you, then I would not suggest this tour as it did have quite a bit of that. However, that also let you see the real Norway homes and country roads.
