Itinerary
Enjoy a 3,5-hour Mostraumen Fjord Cruise from Bergen and experience the magnificent and varied landscapes in the Osterfjord and Mostraumen strait. When sailing out from Bergen's famous Fish Market you will have a great view to some of the oldest and most relevant historical sites in the city, including the medieval fortress Bergenhus, St Mary's church and the colorful Bryggen Hanseatic wharf, which is on UNESCO’s world heritage list. From there, we sail through beautiful Western Norwegian scenery in the City Fjord, Salhus Fjord and Osterfjord towards the stunning Mostraumen Streams. The captain safely steers the boat through narrow sounds, deep fjords, a maze of islands and the powerful currents of the narrow Mostraumen channel.
The picturesque Fish Market in Bergen is one of Norway's most visited outdoors markets. The Fish Market sells seafood, fruit and vegetables. The Fish Market has a charming location in the heart of the city between the fjords and Bergen's 7 mountains. The Fish Market has since the 1200s been a meeting place for merchants and fishermen. There are also several restaurants serving a large selection of seafood. The indoor Fish Market is open all year and the outdoor Fish Market is open from the 1st of May and during the summer.
Colorful Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf is one of Bergen's and Norway's main attractions. The very first buildings in Bergen were situated at Bryggen, which has been a vibrant and important area of the city for many centuries. Bryggen is now part of our common heritage and has a place on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and the city of Bergen is a designated World Heritage City. The world heritage site consists of the old Hanseatic wharf and buildings, and one of the best known urban areas from the Middle Ages in all of Norway.
Bergenhus Fortress and Royal Castle is one of the oldest and best preserved stone fortifications in Norway, and it contains buildings dating back as far as 1240. In medieval times the area was known as Holmen and contained the royal recidence, as well as a cathedral, several churches, the bishop's residence and a Dominican monastery. Excavations have revealed foundations of buildings believed to date back to before 1100. In the 13th century Bergen was the capital of Norway and Holmen was the main seat of Norway's rulers. Håkon's Hall was built in 1247 and It was the largest and most imposing building of the royal residency in the 13th century.
The Funicular Railway is one of Norway's most famous attractions. The trip starts from the city centre, just 150 metres from the Fish Market and Bryggen. The exiting trip up to the mountain is a magnificent experience in itself. From Mount Fløyen, approx. 320 metres above sea level, you can enjoy the beautiful view, study the cityscape in detail and the seaward approaches and fjords surrounding Bergen. At Fløyen there is also a restaurant, cafeteria, souvenir shop and play area. The Fløibanen line is 844 m (2,769 ft) long, covers a height difference of 302 m (991 ft), and carries over 1,8 million passengers a year. The line is single track with a central passing loop and was build in 1918. The track is has a gradient that varies between 15 and 26 degrees. There are two cars, each of which can carry 100 passengers. The track has 6 stops and are frequently used by locals living up on the mountain side as well as two kindergardens on the mountain.

What a great tour to hit all the "must see" in Bergen! Our guide, Lorenzo, was fantastic and so knowledgeable. The time flew by! The cruise back and forth to the fjords was a little over 3 hours, but well worth it.
Tour is a great way to see the main parts of Bergen. It's super helpful that the tours operator arranged all entrance fees & tickets, so you avoid having to spend time in lines, particularly the funicular. Our guide was great - incredibly knowledgeable, particularly about slate. We didn't realize when booking that the fjord cruise was 3.5 hrs (our error), so that part was more than we needed since we had just come from Geiranger.
Thank you for your review! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour and that our guide's knowledge helped make your experience in Bergen even more memorable. It's also great to know that having all tickets and entrance fees arranged made the day more convenient. We appreciate your feedback regarding the fjord cruise. The cruise duration is approximately 3.5 hours and is listed in the tour itinerary, but we understand it may have felt longer than expected, especially after already experiencing Geiranger. We'll keep your comments in mind as we continue working to ensure our tour descriptions set the right expectations. Thank you for choosing Guided Fjord Tours, and we hope to welcome you back to Norway in the future!
Great combination for sight seeing. Tracy was awesome!
Great tour by an older gentleman who was very knowledgeable about the country and history. We were lucky with the weather and the trip into the fjord was very beautiful. We would do it again.
Jana was excellent. We were hampered by rain, often heavy, so we redefined our outing. We had seen a lot of the usual tourist sites before so took bus and Uber to churches and sites in suburbs. She is delightful, very knowledgeable, English fluent. Highly recommend her, well worth it.
This was a packed day, walking to different sights, good tour at the fortress, views from above the city, walk around the Bryggen and through the fish market (sampling a few things) and finishing with the fjord cruise (beautiful narrow fjord). Our guide went the extra mile holding a taxi for us to return to our cruise ship. Thanks!
Carolina did a very good job. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The boat ride was long but enjoyable. We had to rush in the grocery store prior to the cruise to get some food but that was okay.
Paul was great. Knowledgeable and with a sense of humor. Being a lifelong Bergenite he brought not only historical information but tied much of it in to his multi-generational family life.
Excellent guide and day in Bergen and on the water! Beautiful area and such rich history! Thank you!
The company thrives on service and support. Travelers make mistakes. We did and even got on the wrong ship. Frode with the company helped us connect with our tour group later and Tracy helped us through out the balance of the tour. Many thanks!
