The Tropic of Capricorn is a parallel to the southern hemisphere. It is located at a latitude of 23º 26' 17" south of the equator. This imaginary line delimits the southernmost points where the Sun can occupy the zenith at noon. Here we make a stop for photography and explanation of the place
The Salar de Aguas Calientes Sur is located 60 kilometers southeast of the town of Socaire, and 154 kilometers from the town of San Pedro de Atacama in the direction of Paso Sico (border crossing with Argentina). This salt flat is also known as Piedras Rojas.
Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons The Miscanti and Miñiques Lagoons are sister lagoons and known as “Altiplanic Lagoons”, formed by groundwater from melting snow from the Miscanti hill and the Miñiques volcano. In this natural setting it is very common to find diverse fauna such as foxes, flamingos and vicuñas.
Socaire is a Lickanantay indigenous community, whose territory articulates different ecological levels. That is why the subsistence of our people complements livestock, traditional agriculture and its secondary products. Socaire Church The church of San Bartolomé is part of the historical heritage of Socaire. San Bartolomé is the patron saint of shepherds and also of those who work the skins, manufacture or use leather, gloves, coats, belts and boots, his festival is celebrated every August 24. The church is characterized by Andean colonial architecture characterized by a main nave with side chapels, whose construction system is similar to that of traditional houses, forming part of a long tradition of volcanic stone quarries and edgers.
In the town of Toconao, belonging to the commune of San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta region, is the Chaxa lagoon, the central point of the Salar de Atacama. This sector is located within the Los Flamencos National Reserve. The reserve stands out for the protection of species such as the tuco tuco of the puna, culpeo fox, puma, large parina, Chilean flamingo, small parina, vicuña and guanaco. It also serves as a conservation area for vulnerable flora, highlighting the presence of tamarugos and carob trees.

The walk was well worth it. The guides were very explaining regarding the information of the places visited and in the preparation of meals.
The tour is a must for the beauty and variety of ecosystems. I suggest leaving for the third or fourth day of the tour. The Natalia guide was sensational. Super cult, proactive, willing to answer all kinds of questions. Really reasonable food, with caprices in the details, despite the simplicity. We were lucky to see most of the animals in the area: Lamas, Vicunhas, Vizcachas, Cornudas Birds, Flamingos of 2 species, Artemias.
The guide was very friendly and approachable, with a lot of knowledge about the area visited. Additionally, she was very concerned about safety; every time we got back on the minibus, she reminded us to use the seatbelt. The driver was very kind and cautious in his driving. The breakfast and lunch....very good, very attentive, and everything was clean.
Our guide Carolina was absolutely wonderful. She gave us detailed and fascinating explanations about local history and native wildlife throughout our journey. Our driver Alejandro was highly professional, steady and careful behind the wheel. The surrounding landscapes were breathtaking. We enjoyed fantastic service and had an unforgettable trip overall. However, prices listed on TripAdvisor are considerably more expensive than booking directly offline through local tour agencies.

This is a must see, scenery is incredible. Kati was a brilliant guide, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable and together with the driver prepared great food. We were picked up between 6-6.30am and seemed to arrive everywhere before the other tours which was great for us! This was an unforgettable day, thank you.
