Itinerary
Starting from your hotel we head to “Potamies” an Authentic Cretan village. There we will make our first stop, in a traditional mitato where we will meet a local shepherd with his family. We will see how the cheese is made after first milking the milk from the goats and then we will learn how the flour is made in the traditional herromily. Those who wish can taste from the traditional products of the shepherd, such as cheese, raki and oil.
Wandering among the gardens of the village with the fresh fruits and vegetables of the season and the aromas we will reach the dam of Aposelemis, the largest water supply project in Crete. The village of Sfendili is submerged in the waters of the dam with its impressive old houses fading on the surface of the water.
We continue, for perhaps the most representative village of Crete, Avdou. Characteristic of the settlement, all the buildings preserved and with signs with all the information about how the village was shaped then.
Then we will start our ascent using dirt roads, we will pass through the gorge Of “Ebassas”. The view of the imposing mountains and the wild beauty of nature will reward you. At the short stop, the guide will collect various local herbs (oregano, thyme, sage) as the Cretans used to do.
These stone structures fitted with white sails turned with the wind and drew water from the ground to irrigate the crops. During its heydays, Lasithi Plateau had over 10,000 windmills
It's time for the cooking classes from local professionals. Participation in the preparation of dishes from pure ingredients and local products. Get ready to feel the aromas of herbs and taste the unique Cretan products as you cook with us!
Visit to a pottery workshop for the secrets of ceramic art as well as participate in the course for the creation of your own ceramics! Lassithi Plateau, hospitable place and embraced by authentic people.
Time for a tour of the Plateau and contact with its inhabitants. Stop at the local cafeteria. Optional coffee or walk on the allies of the old village.
Now it is time to enjoy the food baked in a wood oven in one of the best traditional restaurants. Flavors , aromas and good local wine!
After this delicious lunch, it is the time to see the monumental plane tree of the village. Its square is dominated by the aqueduct of the 18th century and the imposing centuries-old plane trees and the oldest plane tree of Crete that is over 2000 years old!
We end our day with a tour of an olive oil mill and learning how to export olive oil. A small taste test will follow!

We enjoyed a great day on the Cretan Life tour with our very lovely and funny guide Nikos. The tour gives a really wonderful intro to Cretan culture, tradition and the landscape. From milking goats, watching ceramic pots being made and then making them ourselves, to great fun off roading and smelling herbs and plants on the roadsides, Nikos was completely engaging all day, worked incredibly hard to make all members of the tour feel included, and made the tour thoroughly enjoyable! We will never forget his introduction to milking a goat to our teenage son... hilarious! Highly recommend.
My wife kids and I spent a fantastic day with Safari Experts Crete; a true highlight of our holiday in Crete! Masses of fun and interesting activities packed into a day. Nikos, our amazing driver and guide was great fun... He looked after everyone individually and collectively, putting everyone at ease creating a really relaxed environment where everyone could get to know eachother and enjoy the experience together. He was a real font of knowledge on local history, culture, fauna/flora etc and the experience would not have been the same without him. I can't recommend this highly enough!
A very nice tour. Lots of variety and two enthusiastic guides who could tell a lot. Definitely recommended!
Very beautiful day, fewer people and beaches, it allows you to see the hinterland. We really had a great time and laughed a lot with the guide Niko 👍🏻 Just like the lunch and the visit to the Cave of Zeus 👌🏻 I highly recommend.
Great experience with Dimitri, the French-speaking guide! A day rich in discovery, a guide with a lot of humor and many anecdotes. We had a wonderful day ☺️
Amazing people, beautiful surroundings and incredible food. Best way to get to know the real Crete. Would definitely do it again!
Thank you Ron for this amazing experience! This was very fun. It was worth it and I learnt many new things. It was around 7 hours and we were in a jeep. It was warm, but the wind made it a little bit cooler. I loved it! Ron, you’re the best.
I wanted to give a shoutout to our guide, who was very entertaining and did a wonderful job. That said, I reduced my rating because of the food and the timing. With so much delicious food available in Greece, serving a seemingly frozen chicken leg for lunch was a disappointment. On top of that, the pace of the tour was very rushed, which isn't the way I prefer to travel. A bit more time at the stops and a better meal would have made this perfect.
This was an amazing tour from start to finish. Dimitris was an excellent driver and lovely guy. Communication from Safari Experts was great and we were picked up at the exact time given. The trip itself was high paced. We stopped over 10 times, between picture stops, picking herbs and fresh fruit, making pottery, getting lunch, an olive oil factory and more. Really well worth it. My whole family had a great time.
The tour was really great. We had a lovely time with the guide Christos who speaks perfectly English and told us so many nice facts about the places we visited. The food was delicious and we had such a nice day, definitely recommend this trip!!!
