Not Matt- Not what reviews had praised

We booked this tour because all the reviews highly praised Matt. We didn’t get Matt. He was on vacation. Our guide turned out to be a nice guy but cynical on his view of history. He asked if Washington was a great military hero and the bus agreed. He then said he was allowed his opinion and then proceeded to criticized Washington as not being a great military leader because he lost more battles then he won. This is a historical tour on the 250th year of our country celebrating the sacrifice and devotion of America’s Founding Fathers. I just don’t understand how a guide can insert such opinions into a paid tour that should focus on historical accuracy & facts while tearing down the Father of our Country George Washington first in war, peace, & the country’s heart. Our time visiting Jamestown was drained by our guide’s “quick” tour of the museum. He seems like a nice guy but not a historian. At times his fact’s accuracy were debatable. He did stop at the Jamestown Glass House which was unexpected and interesting. The information that he provided on the drive to and from locations was at times historical but more often focused on information unrelated to American history such as current areas shops, golf course, etc. He did take us to the Moore House which was nice. There were many times he could have driven and narrated important facts, but instead we sat at an intersection not progressing toward our destination. On the return trip he turned on Steve Harvey Family Feud YouTube that had nothing to do with history. It was filled with swearing and inappropriate topics for a family tour. Overall, if this tour is not adapted to fit more of what we only imagine Matt’s tour ,which garnished glowing reviews from customers, to be we cannot in good conscience endorse it. Several times we wondered if we just should have driven ourselves to these sites. It is slightly ironic that we felt at times like a captive held against our will because we had no vehicle to escape.

Thought-provoking and honest tour

The History of Slavery tour in Williamsburg VA was one of the most thought-provoking experiences of our visit. Our tour guide provided us with an honest and informative tour. He took us though history and he did not give us a sugar-coated version of our nations-stained history, which sadly has now become acceptable in the USA. If you want the truth about slavery, and you are not afraid to hear the hard truth, please book this tour. learning about our past is necessary so that we are not doomed to repeat it in the future.

Jamestown and Yorktown tour

This is a perfect way to experience Jamestown and Yorktown. Our guide was full of interesting facts and was sure that we got alot out of the tour. He made sure the tour kept to the time schedule. He gave us ample amount of free time and took time to share lots of interesting stories to relate facts from both places. He definitely loves the history of our country and shared events in a factual but entertaining way.

A Meaningful Historical Day

Matt and his daughter did an excellent and thorough job helping us understand the important history surrounding Jamestown and Yorktown. The sites we saw, the museums we visited, along with his personal family history in the area, all contributed to an enlightening and engaging day. Highly recommend!
