Great day hiking with Mario in Naxos!! Hiking with Mario was fun and challenging!! After our hike we went to a beautiful, treed restaurant where Mario ordered all the local favorites for lunch!! Don’t miss this tour it was a highlight of our trip to Naxos!!
Mario expertly guided us to a hidden oasis on Naxos, along with interesting nuggets on the island's history. The star of the day was our lunch at a gorgeous venue in a quiet village. The food was unbelievable, as was the ambience. I will say, the description says for all skill levels, but I'd advise only people in decent physical and cardiovascular shape attempt this -- plus, those with good balance and who aren't afraid of heights. I was stupid and wore fashion sneakers. Pack supportive shoes with good tread, and wear a hat. If you fit these requirements, you'll have a memorable time and burn a few calories, too.
I booked private hiking tours with Mario and I can honestly say those were the best days we spent on Naxos . Mario was very patient with the 70 year old moms and made sure everyone made it safely. We hiked to the castle one day and to a waterfall the next. Mario is a pro and I would advise anyone wanting to hike in Naxos to use him as he knows what he is doing and where to go safely. He also brought us to the best restaurants after the hikes and we really enjoyed the delicious food! Time and money well spent…highly recommend!
An amazing hiking experience to Routsouna Waterfall in Naxos. Our guide, Ismini, was fantastic—very knowledgeable about the island’s nature and history, incredibly friendly, and easy to communicate with throughout the hike. The trail itself is beautiful, with great views along the way, and the waterfall was especially impressive, full of water thanks to recent rains. The experience was perfectly completed with amazing food after the hike in the village of Koronos. Highly recommended!
On our first day in Naxos — before we’d even had the chance to see anything — we left our luggage at the hotel, and Ismini picked us up in their van. After about a 40-minute drive, we were already speechless from the stunning landscapes and views along the way. We headed north, up into the mountains, far from the touristic areas, and arrived in a hidden, peaceful little village that felt like a step back in time. From there, we began our hike along a beautiful trail that wound between towering rock formations and dry riverbeds filled with lush vegetation. The views to the west and across to Paros Island were simply breathtaking. The trail itself was quite easy, with minimal elevation, but some sections were rocky — definitely not for sandals! After about 45 minutes to an hour of relaxed walking (with plenty of stops as our amazing guide pointed out and explained all the local herbs and plants), we reached a small oasis with a waterfall. The water flow was gentle since it hadn’t rained recently, but that actually made the spot even more peaceful. As Ismini explained, when the waterfall is stronger it can be quite loud, so this way we could really enjoy the serenity. We took a long break there, had some snacks, and enjoyed a lovely chat with Ismini — she’s not only knowledgeable but also incredibly warm and interesting as a person. Afterward, we returned to the village and continued our journey to Koronos, another picturesque mountain village about 15 minutes further north. It’s full of narrow, maze-like alleys and charm at every corner. We had lunch at a local taverna where everything — the meat, cheese, and vegetables — came from their own production. Honestly, it was the best food we’ve ever had! Next time we’re in Naxos, we’ll definitely choose Off the Beaten Trail again — they truly know what they’re doing. This was hands down the best experience we had on the island!
