Itinerary
Chefchaouen was founded in 1471 as a small Kasbah (fortress) by Moulay Ali Ibn Rashid Al-Alami, a descendant of Abd As-Salam al-Alami and Idris I, and through them, of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Al-Alami founded the city to fight the Portuguese invasions of northern Morocco. Along with the Ghomara tribes of the region, many Moriscos and Jews settled here after the Spanish Reconquista (Inquisition) in medieval times. The city's blue palette drives its origin from that same era, given that arriving Jewish exiles painted their houses blue to reflect their divinity - a tradition that continued through the centuries. It wasn't until recently that the blue shades spread out of the Jewish quarter (the Mellah) to the other parts of the Medina (the old town) making it the "blue pearl of Morocco we know today.
Chefchaouen has become one of the world's top picturesque destinations. Its Medina is a real charmer! So, prepare yourself to fall hard for its winding small alleys painted in every shade of blue you could imagine. If you are an Instagrammer, then you are in heaven! Your tour guide, as a local, knows all the hidden photo spots. Hence, you are not going to miss any of them. Furthermore, by strolling down Medina's labyrinthine alleyways, you will immediately absorb the Berber, Moorish, and Andalusian vibes. The itinerary comprises the most important landmarks of the city such as the Kasbah and its Museum, Hawta Square, Ras El Maa waterfall, the Great Mosque, Outa El Hammam main square, and many more. Bab El Ain is one of the main gateways into the historic 15th-century old Medina of Chefchaouen. It is located on the southern side of the Medina, close to a large cemetery. The imposing terracotta-colored stone façade has a relatively small archway through which people can pass and small windows in the upper section. Every town and city has its square, and Chefchaouen is no exception. Plaza Outa El-Hammam boasts an ambiance that is a fusion of Moroccan and Spanish influences, seen overall in the fantastic food, both street food and restaurants, available throughout. The name means literally "The flat ground where the Hammam is" because near the square there is a Hammam as well as the Great Mosque and the Kasbah; so it could have been named Outa El-Kasbah or Outa El-Jamaa (mosque), but no. Anyway, it's a great central point of the town; it can be great for simply relaxing and admiring the majestic mountains that overlook the city. The Kasbah is located next to the Great Mosque, just a few steps away. Inside the Kasbah lies the beautiful Andalusian Garden which stands as a tranquil green oasis complementing the calming flood of blue that characterizes the town. Within the garden stands the Ethnographic Museum of Chefchaouen, known as the Kasbah Museum. It invites visitors to explore its unrivaled collection of artifacts that tell the story of the Chefchaouen region, with everything from pottery to musical instruments. Not only that, there's even a small art gallery within the museum. A visit here is a must to learn about the history and culture of the blue city of Morocco - it's simply not enough to appreciate the aesthetics. Constructed in the 15th century, Chefchaouen's Grande Mosque was built on the orders of the son of the city's founder. It features an octagonal minaret, which is somewhat unusual when compared to the many square minarets that generally tower over the nation's myriad mosques. The shape was influenced by Andalusian styles, brought to the country by Muslims from Spain. Built from stone, the shades of brown and beige are juxtaposed against the nearby blue and white buildings. Admiring the mosque is among the top things to do in Chefchaouen. Translating as head of the water, this is the point at which the fresh mountain water trickles its way into the town, and proves a popular gathering place for locals. Not only, are they an alternative to the remote and grand waterfalls of the mountains, but also these refreshing falls are much better to both escape the heat and to get another insight into standard daily life. Locals gather here to wash their clothes and simply have a friendly water cooler moment. The thundering water is used to power some mills (Rhas) spread on the sides of the water stream. After a break for a delicious Chaouni lunch, your tour guide will escort you to the Spanish Mosque, or Bouzafaar Mosque, to take in the wonderful view over Chefchaouen from an outside terrace. Located two 650 meters from Ras El-Ma, the Spanish Mosque is perched on a hilltop. The evocative ruins overlook the city, and it's a terrific vantage point from which to admire the surroundings. The white-washed mosque was built in the 1920s by the Spanish. It failed to attract local worshippers; it never has been used as a mosque. Consequently, it fell into disrepair. Restoration works were later carried out. As a non-working mosque, all visitors can take a peek inside. It is also called Boujaafar Mosque, and the word Boujaafar refers to the Spanish official who was in charge of building the mosque and who had an unusually big mustache. This will be the end of your tour of Chefchaouen. Before heading to Tangier, you'll be left with plenty of free time for more photos.

We were so looking forward to our excursion to Chefchaouen. This excursion from Tangier was advertised as 8-9 hours long. And supposed to have started at 9 am but Nabil called & asked if we could start at 9am. Sure . Abdul arrived at our hotel close to 930am. Off we drove with 1 stop for bathroom & photo . When we arrived around 2 1/2 hours later , we found out we had another tour guide . That was fine, Mohammed walked us around town & in some shops he knew the shop keepers. We walked down some notable streets , took pictures and around hour & 15 , Mohammed dropped us off at a restaurant for lunch & told us he’d pick us up after . We were okay with that. Close to 45 min later, he picks us up & we walk down another few streets towards the area where Abdul is going to pick us up to bring us back to hotel in Tangier. Abdul did just that, no conversation , no asking if we needed rest stop along the way, he appeared to be in a great hurray to get back to Tangier. We were back at our hotel after 6 hours & 15 minutes , ( not what we thought we signed up for ). We didn’t need to spend all that money for a drive & lunch ( that we paid for on top of tour). I’ve never written a bad review but thought I should share our experience . I’m sorry I had to do this
The experience in Chefchaouen is must to try- Driver( Abdul) drives so smoothly while the road is quite curvy. And the local guide( Mohammed) is very knowledgeable to guide the tour smoothly as the local who has been living chefchaouen so long time. We enjoyed the great , quiet spot for the photo while we were in bustling area. Please allocate extra budget to grab the artwork, craft as you can only get the quality in this tour. We enjoyed every single moment- definitely will be back.
Salam! Thank you so much for your great review
Everything was punctual and well-organised. From a friendly and knowledgable driver to an amazing tour guide Mustafa in the medina.
Everything went smoothly from start to finish. Nabil met us at the train station with the driver, Abdul. They were both polite, helpful and accommodating!! Our drive to Chefchaouen was pleasant, relaxing and scenic. We made 1 stop along the way! Our tour guide, Mustafa, met us in Chefchaouen and gave us an excellent tour with a very nice pace! We never felt rushed. He spoke English well and pointed out all of the impt areas of interest to us. He waited patiently as we shopped a bit and we never felt pressured! After we stopped for lunch, he met back up with us, again on time and we completed our tour! Our driver, again with perfect timing, returned us safely to our hotel, despite some traffic backups! Overall a very pleasant, educational and relaxing day with perfect weather!!
“Thank you for your excellent feedback. It was an honor to host you in Tangier. We’re delighted you enjoyed the experience and hope to see you again for another exceptional tour.”
Great experience , and funny guide , speaks great English and informative , Hicham is great person , Bilal the driver is great person and we like him so much as well, and we have met , the main person who arranged everything , I think his name is Nabeel is great person as well.
While we had booked a tour to Chefchaoun from Tangier it turned into a private tour of Tangier as we were told by the guide the night before there was not enough time to travel round trip from Tangier to Chefchaouen and guarantee a return to our ship in time for it’s 9 pm departure. Our guide, “Chop Chop” was an excellent guide. He was courteous, polite, knowledgeable and knew every corner of Tangier. He took us to places tourists don’t typically go and arranged a delicious Moroccan lunch for us. We avoided most of the crowds visiting typical places in Tangier. We would highly recommend him
We had a great experience with our guide from Tangia to Chefchaouen. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and showed us some amazing hidden spots in the Blue City that we would not have found on our own. His local insight really made the visit special. The driver who picked us up from our hotel in Tangia was prompt and drove us back to the ferry on time. Highly recommend!
My husband and I were looking forward to go to Morocco and we were researching different tour guide options. I came across Nabil’s tours and after reading a blog post about another couples amazing experience with him, my husband and I decided to reach out and book the Tangier and Chefchaouen tour with Nabil. It was absolutely amazing from A to Z. He took care of us so well and went above and beyond to make sure we were having the best time. If you’re going to Tangier, Nabil’s Tour is the ONLY tour to consider!!!!
We booked trips on two days. The first was to Chefchauen, the blue city. We were met at arrival and driven in a comfortable mini-bus to our destination where we were greeted by our lovely guide Mustafa. He is extremely knowledgeable and we had a great time. Almost every time we turned a corner it was an “oh wow!” moment. On the second day we saw Tanger, including the cave of Hercules and the old town. The whole experience was great and professional and I can highly recommend Nabil and his crew
Thank you so much for the review Hope to see you again
I was visiting my friend in the south of Spain, and we really wanted to see Morocco, but as two women, there is no way we would feel comfortable venturing into North Africa by ourselves. Nabil came highly recommended by her friends at the naval base, and there is a reason he has only 5-star reviews. From start to finish, Nabil will greet you warmly at the ferry, arrange comfortable and safe transportation to every stop in Tangier and Chefchaoen, and chat freely about the history and sites of Tangier with the most warm and welcoming spirit you could imagine! He takes you to the sites you want to see, as well as good local restaurants, and he makes sure you are taken care of. I feel like I got to see the city through the eyes of a native who was somehow also a long-lost friend, and we felt safe and giddy and totally welcomed in a place where we most expected to feel lost, anxious, and hassled. Though brief, this trip was one of the most surprising and soul-filling I have ever taken, and Nabil was a huge part of that. You could wander the city by yourself and try and figure things out, but...why would you? Nabil knows everyone, takes you everywhere, reduces all the stress of travel and shows you the best of his homeland--all with the kindest and most radiant friendliness and desire to give you the best tour possible. Book Nabil today, you won't be sorry. My only complaint is...Nabil, where are these homemade cookies from your mother I was reading about in the other reviews?!
Shukran thanks for the great review Me and my team really enjoyed the tour with you Thanks
