I first was brought to Boom Chicago in 2002 and loved its quirky improv comedy..I brought my wife (who used to manage a theatre) in 2011 and she loved it. This time we brought our daughter who is studying amateur drama as a hobby. She loved it too..On a trip to Amsterdam that involves visiting the amazing art and canals of traditional Dutch culture, visiting Boom Chicago is essential to experience the complimentary craziness of the modern Netherlands. Although the comedy team do lean too much on the audience - and although some scenes fall flat - the overall experience is good fun and a great night out. One limitation the team may face is the modern fear of being cancelled fornsaying the wrong thing. In 2002 Boom Chicago did hilarious skits and lampoons of politicians. In todays mich more sensitive times they are more constrained. But they still put on a good show. I recommend.
Super fun to laugh for an evening!
I went to Boom Chicago very often from 1997 - 2002 when I lived in The Netherlands as an expat and it was always such a special place. So many memories with great friends! To see where it has come today is truly mind blowing. So many epic, globally-known comedians were born at Boom. (And yet they are still so humble!) So loved being back to see a show this week after so many years. Thank you Saskia and Andrew! xxx
I'm an American living in the Netherlands for about 16 years now and I didn't find it very funny. I think it would have been funnier to do something about Americans trying to buy homes in the Netherlands (instead they tried to make fun of some US-style home sales). Americans dealing with the much smaller spaces, the lack of toilets (excuse me, bathrooms) and lawns, the lack of actual places to buy, the dense neighborhoods with coffeeshops or red light district nearby, early experiences living in Amsterdam...I mean - that could be hilarious. The divorce skit was fine but only two choices given to the audience for each turn was not too much of a challenge for the comics. The pun jokes about the auction items like the sandals and Dogs playing poker on velvet fell flat. The Noord skit started out funny but the sexy ferry was too long, over the top and didn't grab me. So I left during the intermission. Maybe I am not the target audience for this show. Behind us were a few tourists who said, "Now that we've been here a few days and understand the culture here, we'll probably appreciate this more." And they seemed to really enjoy it. I feel badly about complaining, but for the premium ticket price I think it can be improved.
1. Be ready to participate by suggesting responses to questions from the performers, and don't be shy!
So talented people! Have not laughed this much in a Long Time. Exactly what I needed 🎉
Thank you! And I double believe it was a Long Time because you capitalized it!!
See the Improv Spectular as well!
Thank you!! We also have our new show about how hard it is to find (and afford) the perfect place. It's called Sweet Home Amsterdama!!
One of the funniest nights I can remember. The cast was so entertaining and the audience couldn’t stop laughing.
Thank you for taking the time to write. We love to hear it!
The best comedy show Ive seen in a long time!
Thank you Ann. You are the best audience member we have seen in a long time!
I usually laugh very easily, but this show didn't make me laugh as much. In addition, the acoustics of the room were pretty bad, and since I was in the last rows, I missed a lot of the performance.
Sorry it didn't work for you. We have not heard that acoustics observation before. Most people agree the Upstairs Theater is the best room for comedy in Amsterdam.
