Gunkanjima (Battleship Island), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an uninhabited island floating in the sea. It once thrived as a coal-mining town and even held the record for the world’s highest population density. Its nickname comes from the fact that, from certain angles, it looks just like a battleship. We’ll take you to the best photo spot of this island, which was also used as a filming location for the James Bond movie 007. From between the twin rocks known as Meoto-iwa (Couple Rocks), which stand close together as if leaning on each other, you can capture a perfect view of Gunkanjima.
Mt.Gongen is a special place for the locals. From the observation deck, you can enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the sea and the peninsula. At the summit, there is a shrine, and this area was once home to a U.S. military base.
