Diego Rivera at the Living Museum of Muralism

Description
Do you want to know in depth the work of Diego Rivera? The SEP, today called Museo vivo del Muralismo is an enclosure with more than 280 murals by the best artists in Mexico. We'll meet on the first floor of the museum. From there we will walk through the three levels of the building: the first dedicated to trades and traditions, the second to shields, and the third to corrido-poems, and the Russian and Mexican revolution. In each we will analyze Rivera’s pictorial development over the years, as well as the obsessions and fears of the time. Then we will visit the extension of the building where the giant murals of David Siqueiros lie. These could be listed among the largest murals, in size and importance, in Mexico City. Finally, we will tour the rooms dedicated to indigenous murals, ceramics, the convent, and reproductions of several important works in modern Mexico.

If we could give this tour 6 stars we would. Our guide, Jose, is a deep dive in Diego Rivera’s murals, history and culture. This 17th century neoclassical convent made the tour all the richer. We all learned so much from him. It is obvious he loves this subject and sharing with others. Don’t hesitate to book this highlight tour and ask for Jose!!!
5 spectacular .jose great guide we visited soumaya museum too. Detailed explanations and very objective observations stimulating, was an extremely pleasant and organized tour
Jose is very prepared, kind, welcoming, speaks good Italian and you can feel all his great and true passion
Diego Rivera's Murals cover the first floor of the Living Museum of Murals. Entrance is FREE. Just requires a visitor log in. On the second floor stairway is an amazing exhibit of Siqueiros. The buildings architecture is amazing and was the former headquarters fir the Ministry of Public Education.
You can get a free tour in English at this museum at noon. There is no charge for entry and the guides work for the museum. It’s a fabulous collection of murals and the guides are excellent. Great activity to do on a Monday in CDMX.
Cultured thoughtful teacher guide with excellent English seemed excited to impart knowledge of Mexico’s culture and history and politics in a thoughtful way that gets his clients to think and engage and understand more for doing so. He brought everything alive on the mural tour and the Soumaya museum a couple of days ago and has a passion for art and culture . No surprise to learn he’s a published poet and composes and aspires to write a novel. If you get him as your guide you will have a wonderful window into the soul, psyche and history of Mexico
