If you want peace, enjoy the landscape, avoid crowded tourist areas and are a little physically fit, then a hike to Mt. Longonot is the right place. I recommend going early in the morning, both because of the weather and so that you have enough time for everything. After buying a ticket, you have the option to go alone and enjoy the complete freedom that surrounds you there or for a fee of USD 30, take a guide with you. He will definitely tell you a lot of interesting information. I decided to go alone. The path to the top of the crater is 2.5 km with elevation gain, it can be done in an hour. The path around the crater, which gives you an amazing breathtaking view, which is worth it, is 7.2 km and I managed it in about 2 hours. all the way around. The entire route is 13 km and takes about 4 hours. The highest peak is at 2780 m. Inside the crater is an amazing rainforest. If you are planning other activities in the area, it is a good idea to plan an overnight stay around Lake Naivasha and not drive back to Nairobi. This will save you time, money and, if you have a private driver, fuel. It is a bit different than other national parks, but it is definitely worth it.
The hike was amazing! Could not have wished for a better guide than Dominic really. He was patient and informative, which was important to me as this was my first hike ever. The wildlife was the cherry on the cake. This was such a rewarding experience. I enjoyed the experience and looking forward to more.
One of the best hiking experiences I have had so far, goes highly recommended. Great service from the tour guide as well.
Fantastic.Absolutely sensational. Especially the tour guide he really understands the terrain and I really learned alot. Admission fees were okay but can be better. Took a while because I wasn't fit enough but it was okay nevertheless. The atmosphere was so good and i enjoyed the fact that we went on a sunny day and it didn't rain. I went on a Tuesday so there wasn't a large crowd so I really enjoyed the exclusively. Best for family and team building.
Dominic was the best guide we could have asked for! He was really entertaining with his sharing of information about Mount Longonot & Kenyan culture. So thrilled that he took us on the full hike around the whole crater. The hike took ~ 5 hours & was more intermediate level. Stunning scenery & one of the best hikes I have ever experienced! Absolutely worth it! :)
