Terrible experience. We booked this through Travelocity. It was advertised as a tour in English. Instead it was in English and Spanish. This meant twice the amount of time with translations, missing what was actually being described, and less free time. We were also not informed we needed to bring our passport, not just a regular id. We ran back to the hotel to get it, which was thankfully close. The guide in meantime told us to meet him by the church. He did not indicate which church, the name, or the location. The air conditioning on the bus was terrible despite asking the guide to please turn it on.
The tour was changed, without notice from Cologne and Aachen to just Cologne. We sent multiple messages and tried to call the guide numerous times the day before the tour with no response. We woke early and arrived at the meeting place at 07:30 for the 08:00 meeting time and never saw a guide. I tried the number again and this time spoke with someone who said I had to call the Brussels office, they were in Spain. She sent me a different number in Whatsap and I sent that number a message. After a couple of messages back and forth we were told that the tour had been canceled and we were refunded. I have booked many tours with Viator in many countries but have never had such a poor experience. I would not book this tour for any reason. The original tour had 4.3 stars with many reviews. When they changed it, the new tour only had one review and it was 1 star. Very poor business practices here.
The tour is ok but not really worth it. You lose almost 8 hours just in trav re l, and the guides first language is Spanish so he favored speaking with others. Since his first language is not English, he is a little difficult to understand. The part that bothered me was that the departure times are not adhered to. We waited for 'Ronaldo' and he never showed up, then waited on the return for another person. Also had to wait for people to return at the rest stop, not for toilet, but for food, as if they would starve in the next hour. That is MY time lost. You will be much better off just rail to Colonge and spend one night, for about the same money The guides was not friendly.
Horrible!! Woke up so early and went to the meeting point to find out that the tour was cancelled. Texted the company complaining and requesting a refund and I’m still waiting on an answer. No one has contacted me. The first tour to Luxembourg on Saturday was cancelled as well but at least I received a notification 24 hours before.
