Welcome aboard the Christchurch Tram! Travel on our newly extended track & enjoy this unique and historic way to view the inner city. Drivers provide a live and entertaining commentary. A full circuit takes 50 minutes, includes 18 stops and there are up to four Trams operating. Trams run approximately every 15 minutes (season dependent) and your ticket lasts all day as a hop on and off pass. Once booked, please collect your tickets with your booking reference number from the booking office located in Cathedral Junction 109 Worcester St. Please note our attractions do get very busy sometimes, especially if a cruise ship is in port and there may be a wait time at the Tram entry due to increased demand

Important Information

- Seats are cozy and secure, but please note outside seats are not weatherproof
- Children must be accompanied on the trams at all times by a paying adult. For safety reasons, we allow one adult to supervise up to three children/infants aged 15 years and under
- Folded prams can be only be accommodated on particular trams
- Please advise us in advance if you need wheelchair assistance
- Tickets to be collected from the booking office located in Cathedral Junction 109 Worcester St
- There may be a wait time at the Tram entry due to increased demand
- Particular trams are wheelchair accessible and people with mobility issues may struggle with the height of the trams
- There is a wheelchair hoist available from Stop 1 in Cathedral Junction with a weight limit of 220kg. Please note that the hoist is not accessible to electric wheelchairs

Excellent all round experience. Learnt a heap about the area - visually the viewing from the ride & all the info from the driver it was exceptionally great value. Must do!
Loved this way of getting info on the CBD. Would recommend this to be the first thing to do in Christchurch, to plan everything else you want to spend time doing for the rest of your visit.
A must do to see Christchurch city in full by doing a full loop to identify exactly where you want to shop or eat at.
The tour was very nice and the trams were very good; the city is very beautiful and there is a lot to do. The distance to get there from our hotel is also very accessible.

I pay $52 but I didn’t know I was charged $87.28 on my account because of the USD. Dollar. So my experience was very disappointing

We absolutely loved the Christchurch Tram and honestly wished we could have gone around again the next day! It was such a convenient and enjoyable way to explore the city, and we can't recommend it highly enough. We were lucky enough to ride with what I think were all four trams working that day, and every single one of them was incredibly with each tram driver being friendly, welcoming and passionate about Christchurch also with great recommendations on where to go. One of the biggest highlights was when our tram was running a little ahead of schedule. Instead of simply waiting, our driver took us into the Arts Centre and showed us the Great Hall, sharing the fascinating history of the building. It was such an unexpected bonus and something we really appreciated. Another driver even stopped the tram so guests could hop off and take photos outside, which made for some wonderful memories. It's those little personal touches that made this experience so special. Thank you to all of the amazing tram drivers for making our visit so memorable. We would recommend the Christchurch Tram to anyone visiting the city!

The Christchurch tram is a single carriage tram, of which eight carriages, each over 100 years old, run along a 18 stop circuit through central Christchurch. A guide on the tram, mostly also the driver, provides (often humorous) comments about points of interest you pass along the way. Ideal for a rainy Sunday winter morning - that's when we took this trip.

Was informative and interesting till the very end. Excited 6 year old nephew was a little excited and a bit loud. A little girl was as well. Not jumping around. Just a bit loud. Tram driver Barry was not talking at this time but when he needed to again instead of just saying he needed quiet decided it would be a better idea to humiliate our group and the other parent. We were already saying to nephew to lower his voice. Then getting off did not even say a word to us but did to everyone else. Wasn’t a really friendly atmosphere and you’d expect better from someone who works with tourist children. Ticket seller and other tram drivers were amazing and friendly

The best thing that we did on our first day in Christchurch. It allowed us to see everything and make plans to spend more time at certain places. The commentary was informative and amusing.
It was so great. The drivers were amazing and made suggestions what to do and where to get on and off. So interesting to hear about the earthquake and all the rebuilding. Even though I live 70kms away so much information I did not know about. Thank you
