This is the first brownie ever made, and it still holds up as one of the most indulgent bites in the city. With its dazzling lights and grand French Baroque architecture, it’s one of the most photographed buildings in Chicago. But here’s a bit of insider scoop: the massive “CHICAGO” sign out front? It’s not original—it was added in the '80s during a major restoration to match the theater’s golden era glam. On our Chicago Food Tour, we pass right by this show-stopping landmark while serving up the stories behind its legendary stage and the stars who’ve performed there. Paired with iconic eats like deep-dish pizza and Italian beef, this stop adds a dash of vintage flair to your flavor-packed journey. It’s warm, melty, crunchy, and completely crave-worthy—the kind of snack that turns popcorn skeptics into full-blown fans. On our Chicago Food Tour, you’ll skip the long lines and dive straight into this hometown favorite. It’s one of those Things to Do in Chicago you didn’t know you needed… until you’ve tasted it. 10 min

AM Tours Only. Crown Fountain in Millennium Park is one of Chicago’s most unique public art installations—a pair of towering glass block fountains that project the faces of real Chicagoans, slowly changing expressions before playfully spitting water in the summer months. Designed by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, it’s a blend of technology, art, and just the right amount of whimsy. On our Chicago Food Tour, you’ll experience this interactive landmark as part of your flavorful journey through the city’s heart. Between bites of deep-dish pizza and legendary local snacks, you’ll learn the stories behind the art that makes Chicago truly special. AM tours only. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion is Millennium Park’s architectural showstopper—a sweeping steel structure designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry. With its flowing curves and state-of-the-art sound system, it’s not just a concert venue—it’s a visual and acoustic masterpiece. Fun insider tip: the crisscrossing trellis above the lawn isn’t just for looks—it actually carries sound evenly to every seat, so even picnickers way in the back get front-row quality audio. On our Chicago Food Tour, you’ll stroll past this striking landmark as we blend art, architecture, and unforgettable eats into one delicious experience. Paired with bites like deep-dish pizza and Garrett’s popcorn, the Pavilion is just one of many iconic stops that make this Food Tour in Chicago one of the best Things to Do in Chicago—where the sights are as satisfying as the flavors.

A true foodie knows—some of the best meals come wrapped in paper & bursting with history. Enter the Chicago-style hot dog: a masterpiece thats anything but ordinary. It starts with a juicy, all-beef frankfurter, cradled in a soft poppy seed bun. Then comes the magic—yellow mustard, that unmistakable neon green relish, freshly chopped onions, tomato wedges, a crisp dill pickle spear, sport peppers for a little kick, & a shake of celery salt to bring it all together. And remember: in Chicago, ketchup isn’t just unnecessary—it’s forbidden. This isn't just a hot dog; it’s a cultural rite of passage. On our Chicago Food Tour, you'll taste this legendary street food where it was meant to be eaten—at an authentic local stand like Relish, tucked along Michigan Avenue. If you're looking for unforgettable Things to Do in Chicago, this Food Tour in Chicago will satisfy your appetite for flavor, local lore, & serious foodie cred. *PLEASE NOTE: We rotate our hot dog partners to keep things juicy.

Admission included20 min

AM Day Tours Only: Get ready to sink your teeth into one of Chicago’s juiciest, messiest, most mouthwatering creations—the legendary Italian Beef sandwich. Thin-sliced, slow-roasted beef piled high on fresh Italian bread, dunked (or double-dipped, if you dare) in savory, herb-infused au jus, and topped with spicy giardiniera or sweet peppers. It’s bold, beefy, and unapologetically satisfying. On our Chicago Food Tour, we rotate between some of the city’s most iconic local spots—each with their own take on this beloved sandwich, so no two tours are ever exactly the same. That means one day you might be biting into a classic dipped beef with sweet peppers, and the next, a spicy giardiniera masterpiece that leaves you wiping your chin and begging for more. If you’re hungry for authentic flavor and one-of-a-kind Things to Do in Chicago, our Food Tour in Chicago serves up this hometown hero with a side of city pride. *PLEASE NOTE: ALL RESTAURANTS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

PM Tours Only. Chicago’s Historic Water Tower stands as a rare survivor of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871—a limestone Gothic beauty that looks more like a fairytale castle than a piece of city infrastructure. Built to house a water pump that once powered the city’s water system, it’s now a powerful symbol of Chicago’s resilience and rebirth. And here’s a fun tidbit: it’s one of the only buildings that made it through the fire while nearly everything else around it turned to ash. On our Chicago Food Tour, you’ll pass this iconic landmark as we journey through the city’s rich history and legendary eats. Between bites of hot dogs, Italian beef, and deep-dish pizza, you’ll hear how this small but mighty tower earned its place in Chicago lore. For a blend of flavor and fascinating stories, this Food Tour in Chicago is one of the most memorable Things to Do in Chicago—where every stop tells a tale.

5 min

PM Tours Only. Chicago’s Holy Name Cathedral is a stunning example of Gothic Revival architecture—and a spiritual and historical landmark with a dramatic backstory. Built in the 1870s after the Great Chicago Fire, it’s not just a place of worship, but a cornerstone of Chicago’s rebirth. And here’s an insider detail: just outside the cathedral, you can still see a small bronze cross marking the exact spot where a notorious mobster was gunned down during Chicago’s gangster era. History and mystery, all in one stop. On our Chicago Food Tour, you’ll pass this majestic cathedral as we explore the city’s rich cultural layers—paired with iconic bites like Italian beef, Chicago-style hot dogs, and that famous deep-dish pizza. If you're looking for Things to Do in Chicago that blend flavor, architecture, and untold stories, our Food Tour in Chicago offers a deliciously different way to experience the Windy City.

All the Tastes of Chicago

Great tour if you want to sample some Chicago food and get some city architecture information at the same time. Molly was our guide and was very informative with her stories and answering questions. Her voice was easy to understand and hear for someone who sometimes has a hard time hearing. It was HOT and not all stops offered water. I would recommend wearing very comfortable shoes and bringing water. I do wish we had stopped at Garrett's as I had planned on buying some popcorn but instead it was just a small sample of what she had brought along. As a ketchup on a hotdog girl I told myself I would try the Chicago hot dog as is...and surprisingly it was my favorite taste of the tour! Really enjoyed ourselves...we did the late tour and the final stop along the river with all the lights on was really pretty! She did tell us we were her best group ever so we all got matching tattoos (kidding). She was fun!

Operator response

Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed review! We’re delighted that Molly made your Chicago Food Tour so informative, entertaining, and easy to follow. We especially love that a self-proclaimed ketchup-on-a-hot-dog fan gave the traditional Chicago-style dog a chance—and it became your favorite taste of the tour! Finishing your evening along the river with the city lights is a pretty special way to experience Chicago, too. And we’ll have to check with Molly about those matching tattoos! We also appreciate your constructive feedback about water availability on such a hot day and about the Garrett Popcorn experience. Comments like yours help us continue improving the experience, and we understand why someone hoping to purchase popcorn would have preferred a stop at the shop. As Chicago’s only locally owned food tour operator, this city is truly our home, our passion, and our playground. We live in these neighborhoods and have built genuine relationships with the restaurants, chefs, owners, and teams behind Chicago’s iconic flavors. Those connections help make our culinary tour and walking tour more authentic, and we’re honored to be ranked the #1 food tour in Chicago. Your Chicago Favorites tour also includes a free 2-hour bike or kayak rental at no extra charge to enjoy within a couple days of your particular walking and food tour. Guests can bike the 20-mile Lakefront Trail year-round or paddle Lake Michigan from May through October—essentially two Things to Do in Chicago for the price of one. Thank you again for choosing Bobby’s for your Food Tour in Chicago and for sharing both the highlights and the helpful suggestions. Good way to see the city, and taste some of the local offerings.

A trip well worth the food. There is enough food that you will not go hungry, so don’t worry about that. If you enjoy architecture then this trip could be definitely worth the time. I wouldn’t say that the food wasn’t awe inspiring, but it was tasty and offered the opportunity to try the local offerings. However, this is downtown Chicago, and with legalized marijuana, you can smell it through out the tour areas; the big downside. Jacob our guide, although very nice, was young and needed a little more seasoning on how to entertain/educate a crowd on the area and history. I would also note, that you need to keep an eye on him, as he was walking from point to point, he was’t doing a very good job of keeping an eye on ensuring the group was still with him. With a little more seasoned guide, and one a little more knowledgeable of the architecture and history, this would be a more enjoyable tour.

Operator response

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the generous portions, had the opportunity to sample Chicago’s iconic local foods, and found the architecture along the route worthwhile. At the same time, we appreciate your candid comments about the guiding experience. Your observations about group management, storytelling, and the depth of architectural and historical information are valuable, and we’ll use them as we continue coaching and developing our guides. We also understand how encountering marijuana odors in public areas downtown can detract from the experience, although that aspect of the environment is unfortunately outside our control. As Chicago’s only locally owned food tour operator, we take the quality of our Chicago Food Tour seriously. Chicago is our home, our passion, and our playground, and we’ve built genuine relationships with the chefs, owners, and restaurant teams behind the city's flavors. Our goal is for every Food Tour in Chicago to combine those local tastes with engaging history and storytelling, creating a culinary tour and walking tour that feels distinctly Chicago. We’re honored to be ranked the #1 food tour in Chicago, and constructive feedback like yours helps us keep improving. One added benefit of the Chicago Favorites tour is a free 2-hour bike or kayak rental at no extra charge, which guests can enjoy within a couple days of their particular walking and food tour. You can bike the 20-mile Lakefront Trail year-round or paddle Lake Michigan from May through October, making it essentially a two-for-one option for Things to Do in Chicago. Thank you again for joining us and sharing both what worked and where you felt we could do better. We’re passionate about our four core tenets of travel, community, health, and service, and we hope we’ll have the opportunity to provide you with an even stronger Bobby’s experience in the future.

Operator response

Thank you for the wonderful review! We love that you described the experience as fun, relaxed, and informative—that’s exactly the atmosphere we want for our Chicago Food Tour. Whether it’s someone’s first visit or they simply want to discover more about the city they already know, combining Chicago history with deep-dish pizza, a Chicago-style hot dog, Italian beef, brownies, and popcorn makes for one delicious history lesson! We’re proud to be Chicago’s only locally owned food tour operator. This city is our home, our passion, and our playground, and our genuine relationships with local chefs, owners, and restaurant teams allow us to share a deeper side of Chicago. That local perspective is what we believe makes our culinary tour and walking tour special, and we’re honored to be ranked the #1 food tour in Chicago. As an added bonus, your Chicago Favorites experience includes a free 2-hour bike or kayak rental at no extra charge to use within a couple days of your particular walking and food tour. Guests can explore the 20-mile Lakefront Trail by bike year-round or paddle Lake Michigan from May through October. It’s essentially two Things to Do in Chicago for the price of one! Thanks again for recommending Bobby’s as a Food Tour in Chicago. We’d love to have you join us next time for our Chicago Chinatown Food and Walking Tour or one of our award-winning Bike and Food Tours!
