The guide seemed knowledgeable but I couldn't hear her properly. The bloke next to me was talking in a different language while she was talking. I politely asked him to be quiet. He kept on talking. The guide should have told him to be quiet when she was talking too. About 30 minutes into the experience, I had to leave as I was getting upset and missing out on what she was explaining. On another note, the blankets were warm. The sky's were clear.
The gd part of this tour ia that they will check the weather half and hour before the actual event starts, to let you know if the tour is still going on. We are lucky that we are able to see most of the stars when we arrive, and take great photos!
What an amazing way to see NZ. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was a great experience. Karl was our guide for the night, and was such a wealth of information. All the staff are clearly very passionate about what they do and want to share it with people. Driving in was a little daunting given that it was incredibly dark. It’s meant to be. But it’s clearly marked with red lights going in. I’m from sunny North Queensland and feel the cold, so the blanket on arrival was magic. You sit in the dark for a while to let your eyes adjust, and while this is happening, you’re learning about the sky in front of you. The telescopes are great, and the hot chocolate is a welcome addition as well. My tip is be a little early, because headlights can be really distracting if you’re late. Oh and if you’re a sook like me, add another layer. It was -2 degrees C though, so I feel justified!
Great experience overall, staff was knowledgeable and happy to be helpful. Couldn't have asked for more.
Kia Ora Daniel, thank you for joining us on this stellar adventure and we hope that you had a great time learning the wonders of the Southern Hemisphere night sky! We look forward to see you again soon :D
Chameleon gave my friend and I an awesome southern hemisphere stargazing experience plus wonderful pictures to remember the night by. They also gave us blankets and hot chocolate. I can’t recommend them more highly – go with these folks! We learned so much about the stars and galaxies that we could see with our naked eyes, as well as looking through the two telescopes that they provided. The site was just outside town and easy to find, but very dark and perfect for what we needed. It was a small group that allowed for questions and a very personalized time at a great price!

Great opportunity to see and learn about the night sky in a pristine dark sky environment. Mok the tour guide is passionate and unbelievably knowledgeable about her topic. Only downside- it was freezing!

Lovely evening, well organised, saw and learned lots about the night sky. Our hosts were lovely and friendly, funny and entertaining, nothing was too much trouble. Warm blankets and marshmallows were a lovely touch.
Kia Ora Carol, thank you for choosing us to be your nerdy friend in adventuring into the cosmos! We hope this stargazing experience would be a great memory and looking forward to see you again next time :D
I chose this tour operator because of the great reviews about their guide Mok, and because if its cloudy the tour doesn’t run. Another big operator in the area doesn’t cancel, instead they take you on an indoors digital tour. We wanted to ensure the real deal! It was a beautiful total clear sky night with no wind, although it was very cold. (Down to 1 degree). But they’re well set up with chairs and cushions and rugs and hot chocolate delivered just as we were starting to feel cold. But their best part is the knowledge and enthusiasm shown by Mok who was our stars guide. She knows so much and loved sharing it with us, in a gorgeous light hearted way. My Mum, who is 82, had never been camping so not seen a properly dark sky before. She loved this so much and has now ticked that off her list of things she wants to do. The photos are the icing on the cake.
Kia Ora there, we're elated that you'd an amazing time with Mok! We strive our best to make sure everyone is well taken care of, had the best of their time, especially in such chilly weather! We're so happy to learn that this stellar experience would be a great memory to treasure for many times to come, and we hope that you'll visit us again soon! p/s. Mok sends her regards and is ever ready to share more of her nerdy fun star facts with everyone :D
