Clifton is the heart of Cape Town’s beach scene, pulsating with the energy of the bronzed and beautiful. It’s a place to see and be seen, with itsy-bitsy bikinis, g-strings and designer sunglasses the order of the day. While topless tanning is not frowned upon, total nudity is best saved for Sandy Bay. Just offshore, a few yachts lying at anchor in the clear blue waters add to the exotic flavour. Clifton’s four dazzlingly white beaches, separated by outcrops of granite rock, are the most sheltered in Cape Town. This means that Clifton can generally be relied upon for perfect conditions in summer, even when the wind chases people off other beaches. Temperatures can soar on the back beach, but down near the water’s edge the icy sea has a welcome cooling effect. Here, on the hard, wet sand, more active types work up a sweat with beach bats and frisbees, periodically taking a refreshing dunk in the shallows. Others prefer a quick shower to cool off when roasting in the sun gets uncomfortably hot. Vendors ply the beaches selling snacks and drinks, so it is possible to spend a few hours on the beach without wandering far. Each of the four beaches has its own special character. 1st Beach, where many of the locals and old-timers go, is the least crowded, but lacks the cosy atmosphere of the other beaches as it is overlooked by exclusive beachfront apartments. 2nd Beach is considered the place to go for a few hours in the sun without too much hype, while 3rd Beach is a popular rendezvous spot for gay men. Finally, 4th Beach is usually packed with trendy people but is also frequented by family groups, being closest to ablution facilities and parking areas. Clifton 4th Beach is a blue flag beach and one of South Africa's most popular and sought-after beaches. Visited by stars and the famous, 4th beach at Clifton is the in-scene. One of a series of small coves, 4th beach is on the Atlantic Ocean side of Cape Town. Be warned, the water is always icy-cold. Various environmental programmes, including interpretive signage and lifesaving training will be implemented on the beach.

Wherever you have chosen to stay in Cape Town, this popular beach is a must see. Camps Bay Beach is the camp ground of sun tanners and sundowners capturing a clear ocean between Lions Head and Table Mountain. Cafes, bars and restaurants stand mountain side of the beach drive while sand, palm trees and gleaming water falls ocean side. A cosmopolitan lifestyle of see and be seen fashionistas meets a beach town dream-style of sea and be scene.

Initially constructed during the First World War, this 9km route with its 114 curves, skirts Chapman's Peak, the 593m high southerly extension of Constantia Berg, and follows the rocky coastline to unfold breathtaking views in both directions. The route starts at the picturesque fishing harbour of Hout Bay and the climb winds steeply up to Chapman's Point, revealing breathtaking views of the sandy bays down below, until the road reaches lower levels again at Noordhoek. Chapman’s Peak and the surrounding areas offer local and foreign visitors a myriad of things to do. It forms the gateway between Cape Town and the South Peninsula.

A tour not to be missed!

Beautiful day, full of emotions and unique landscapes! From Penguin Beach, to Cape of Good Hope, Cape Point, Clifton, on the way back with magnificent viewpoints along the coast. Our guide has always explained everything to perfection! I highly recommend this tour!

Private tour TOP

We took the private tour of the Winelands with the Mo guide, went to Stellenbosch to visit the city and museum, and then took us to lunch at a farm called Les Pommerie. We found ourselves very well, he was talkative and clear in the explanations. Very discreet when we decided to go around the city on our own, and always available.

Extraordinary tour in Cape Town

We met our guide Toffar at the cruise terminal in Cape Town. From the first moment he convinced us with his calm manner and informative reports. On our tours to the Cape of Good Hope and the wine region we learned a lot about the sights, but also received a lot of background information about the country and people. Through his journalistic background, we have also roamed many other interesting topics. Toffar drove us to great places where we were not in the very large crowd of tourists. His driving is extremely safe and we could rely on Toffar at all times. He is absolutely trustworthy! When we come back to South Africa, we will definitely turn to Toffar and his company again! Thank you, Toffar , for your support!

The Best

There was so much we wanted to see and do in Cape Town and so little time as we had spent the first of our 2 days on Safari. Choosing Mo to show us around the Cape meant we managed to fit in so much in such a short time, we would not have managed any other way. So knowledgeable and friendly probably the best tour we had on all of our world cruise. Would not hesitate to contact again if we manage to return.

Operator response

Thank you and excellent review. We always try our very best to cover as much as possible when our clients are here only for a day or two

Capetown and more!

Mogamat was an excellent guide and driver. He gave 110% in making sure that I had a great day. We went to several markets and Table Mountain, the wine country, a whale coast tour, and a special trip to de Hoop to see whales since my boat trip in Hermanus was cancelled. I learned a lot and enjoyed his company!

Operator response

Thank you for your wonderful review. You were really good company on our lengthy tour through those dusty roads towards the whales at De Hoop.

An Excellent Private Guide for Your Time in Cape Town

We had a most serendipitous day in Cape Town! Our cruise line had canceled our Stellenbosch tour but failed to notify us. While trying to straighten this out we missed the only other tour to the winelands. How fortunate for us! At the pier we fell into the very capable hands of Mogamat Toffar who customized a perfect tour of Stellenbosch and Franschoek, including shopping, a stunning lunch at Delaire Graff, more wine tasting at Haute Cabriere and lots of sightseeing and excellent, well-informed conversation in between. Mo’s deep personal history with Cape Town and South Africa, his mature insights and knowledge and his ease of conversation made him the perfect guide for us. He steered us to the best and we asked him to join us for lunch so we could continue our talks about current culture and society while reflecting on history. Our day with Mo was a highlight of our 8 week trip. Very highly recommended.

Personalised, Informative and Heartfelt Tour of Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek

We had a fantastic time touring Cape Town, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Our family had a memorable time in South Africa because we had an excellent and fantastic tour guide, Mr Mogamat Toffa. He was exceptionally knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights and first-hand experience about the history, culture, and landmarks we visited. What stood out the most was his flexibility—he adapted our itinerary seamlessly to fit our schedule and preferences, ensuring we got the most out of our time. Mr Mogamat also went above and beyond by recommending fantastic places to visit, like the Heart of Cape Town Museum, which perfectly aligned with our interests. Thank you very much, Mr Mogamat. Till we meet again! Sincerely, Latifah, Nadia, Fara, and Kieran.

What a wonderful I shared with this beautiful family led by Raja Latifah. It was a real pleasure to host Malaysians again after a lull of almost four years. Our flexibility sets us apart from our competitors and we appreciate your great feedback. Looking forward to your next tour... Thank you and enjoy your travels!

An amazing day with a fantastic guide

This is an amazing tour with breath-taking views of the Cape and extremely pleasant drive along the coast with stops in several nice and characteristic places to take photos or shop. Optional stop at Penguins' beach which is a must and should not be missed. The driver (Mogamat) was an extremely kind and knowledgeable person which made the tour even more pleasant.

Highly recommended!

We had an amazing day driving by the beautiful coast, visiting Cape of the Good hope, Cape Point, Boulders Beach, Stellenbosch with wine tasting etc. Our private driver and guide Mogamat was very friendly and easy to talk to. He had a lot of knowledge and a contagious laughter. This guided tour is highly recommended!

Thank you, Thea and Bernd, all the way from a snow-filled Norway. So many Nordick words in our Afrikaans language - and they have the same meaning! You share so much information of your country. Thank you. Glad you enjoyed my "GrandSlam" tour. Take care.
