The tours themselves were very nice, once we actually got to them because our driver was 20 minutes late to start the day picking us up. The Buffalo Trace tour is pretty cool and if we were on time for the downs tour, we have gotten to hear and see more. Beware side trips. Folks on our tour bus had a stop at Boulett which caused us to be late to the downs tour…we weren’t told that would happen. Final note, be sure to ask if your tour driver speaks without an accent that you might not be able to understand 50% of what they say. Best advice….drive yourself (if you have a rental). The scenery is wonderful, you’ll be at your own pace and you’ll save probably over $100.
The day was a complete mess. Was told to meet at my hotel in a confirmation email. Then I was messaged saying the pick up was somewhere else and I needed to get there immediately or we would be left. Started heading that way and the driver came to the original location and had to come back to get on bus. Additionally we booked a trip with bourbon tasting and Church Hill downs. Once we get on the bus we found out everyone else on the bus was doing a completely different tour. It was very disorganized. Will not use this vendor again.
Would like to see more of the Churchill Downs and maybe a little more time there. The Buffalo Trace tour was good.
It was great! Verenice was awesome, knowledgeable and kind. One of our stops the cafe was closed and Verenice got me a sandwich, she could see I was fading.
The tour concept, which included Buffalo Trace tour, and Churchill Downs, looked very good and we were excited, but that is not what we did. Buffalo Trace tour went very well and our guide added time at Woodford Reserve on the way to the Churchill Downs Museum/tour. However We were dropped off at 4:15pm, for a 4:30 tour and we had to rush about 3:4 of a mile to the entrance due to preparations for the Derby. We barely made the 1/2 hr track tour but the museum closed at 5:00 which we were very interested. In addition there was no time to visit the gift shop etc.. Our original departure time was 9am, but it was changed the night before to 11am. We most likely would have time to do it all if we had at 9am. Time management was the problem. If fixed this would have been wonderful
This is a great way to start your experience on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. We toured Churchill Downs first and then headed to Woodford and Buffalo Trace. Con: the location changed from Makers Mark to Woodford without notice. But we rolled with it. If you take this tour, please be on time when asked. Holding up others is just rude!
We were so fortunate to have Brittany. She went above and beyond than just being a driver/tour guide. We laughed for hours we were treated like VIP'S. If we are ever in Kentucky again, we would absolutely request Brittany as our guide again!!!
Our driver was severely late picking us up which impacted the rest of the tours for the day. The day was completely rushed. Our driver tried to make up time and cut 30 minutes off our time at Churchill downs. Then at our 1st distillery we were to supposed to have a tasting but we didn’t get a tasting and there was a charge if we had had the tasting. We then moved onto our next distillery which was Buffalo Trace. Arrived late and they rushed us into another tour underway. The driver tried blaming everything on another couple who was also on the tour. Their hotel was 3 minutes away from the pick up spot. The driver was almost 1 hour late and tried to make it up with a rushed day. Then proceeded to play music for our 45 minute ride. not appropriate for the clientele; would be good to know your clients and realize that music would not be our first choice. Overall we made the best of it. But as a driver she shared no knowledge or experience of the area. Would have been better to have coordinated it ourselves. I honestly don’t write reviews but felt it important to share a really less than desirable experience. The best I can say is we all lived and no accidents. That is what I am taking from the experience from the tour perspective. The places visited were great!
Thank you so much for your feedback and for taking the time to share your experience. I would just like to kindly clarify that your tour included Churchill Downs and one distillery experience. It did not include a second distillery tour. Even so, we gave your group extra time at another distillery so you could enjoy lunch and visit an additional location as a courtesy. Regarding the music, if it did not feel right for your group, you were always welcome to let the driver know so she could make the ride more comfortable for you. As for the timing, shared tours depend on all guests arriving on time, and delays with one group can sometimes affect extra courtesy stops later in the day. We do mention that in the itinerary. We also feel that certain remarks in your review do not fairly reflect the professionalism, care, and safety that our drivers provide throughout the experience. Thank you again for your feedback. We truly appreciate you sharing your experience with us.
I had asked for Makers Mark, not Buffalo Trace tour. Our guide said she was never told that. Next, her accent was so strong I didn’t understand half of what she said. Finally, one of our members was hospitalized so couldn’t join us. Viator was notified and said that their travel associate would give us a partial credit. She never charged for the third person in our group so Viator could refund the entire charge for the third person that we canceled for. I expect that to happen and will follow up with Viator when I return home. I’ve booked several trips with Viator over the years. This was a bad experience this time!
Thank you for your message and for sharing your experience. Regarding the third guest who could not attend, we’re sorry to hear about the situation and hope they are doing well. However, our cancellation policies are strict and communicated at the time of booking. Because of this, we are unable to provide refunds for cancellations made outside the policy terms. All reservations, changes, and payments are processed through Viator, so any questions regarding charges or possible credits must be handled directly with them according to the policies. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for visiting.
Everything was great and right on time!
