Go for the library and Book of Kells

The best reason to take this trip is to skip the line to see The Book of Kells for a reasonable cost. That part of the tour was great. You won't go inside with your guide as they are prevented by Trinity. The time is tight while you're there so you have to keep it moving but it is very worth it. Lots of other tours will charge you much higher prices for the privilege. You can walk by yourself to see Molly Malone and the two cathedrals. They're only 10 minutes apart and the guide does not take you inside. In my opinion, you should go on your own and pay to go inside St. Patrick's and take your time. If you're picking between going into St Patrick's or Christ Church, pick St. Patrick's. You should know that the castle is inaccessible for 6 months because Ireland has the presidency of the EU. I was very excited to go inside the castle but that is not possible and you cannot get anywhere close to it with the guide. He said that he would try to get you as close as he could but the truth is nobody can it's guarded by many police officers entire treats blocked off within a certain radius. There was no information about this change to the itinerary. l would still sign up if you want to to to the Long Room and Book of Kells. However, be aware that many of the books in fact most of the books are off the shelves as part of a needed preservation project that will take a long time. l also did not know ahead of time but if you have a trip planned to Dublin and you may not go back ever or for a long time I would absolutely still go.

I would absolutely do this again!

Dave is a fabulous guide and this is s great way to see the city. The tour takes you to many of the major tourist attractions (e.g., Book of Kells) as well as some smaller and lesser known ones (oldest fish and chip shop, oldest continuously occupied house) and you learn about some notorious historical figures like Darkey Kelly (he says serial killer, I say they probably had it coming). Dave keeps a fast pace, but also waits patiently for slowpokes like us. He did an excellent job of keeping us all together despite the busy streets and other tours. I also want to give him credit for speaking loudly and clearly enough that I didn’t have trouble hearing all of his informative and entertaining stories. Great tour. Great guide. Would do again!

Not as described

Book of Kells phase was great. Then we strolled to Dublin castle - it was closed. Guide substituted a look at 2 Cathedrals. Level of knowledge was LOW and level of interest was NIL. We cancelled our next tour w/Viator - tour did not match description. I asked for a refund. Likely won’t use Viator again
