Experience of a lifetime

If you're considering this cooking class, don't hesitate—book it. It was, without question, our favourite experience in all of Europe. From the moment we met Massimo at the Venice Fish Market, we knew this was going to be something special. His passion for Venice, its history and its food was infectious. We were completely engrossed from the very beginning. As a family of five with three boys, keeping everyone engaged isn't always easy, but Massimo had all of us captivated. We learnt so much about the market, Venetian history and fascinating local stories that only someone who has lived there could share. The walk to Massimo's home was just as memorable as the cooking itself, with more incredible insights into Venice around every corner. By the time we arrived, we already felt like we were spending the day with an old friend. We were welcomed warmly into his beautiful home, where the experience became even more magical. Every ingredient told a story, and you could genuinely taste the love and care that came from Massimo's family farm. The homemade wine was a wonderful treat for us parents, and every dish we prepared was absolutely exquisite. Four weeks later, we're still talking about the meal and still can't agree on which dish was our favourite! What surprised us most was how much we all learnt. Massimo taught us not only how to make authentic pasta but also how different herbs and spices can completely transform a dish. Our 10-year-old has even come home determined to keep practising his pasta-making skills, which says everything about how inspiring the day was. A special mention also goes to Julia, who helped throughout the class. She was an absolute delight—warm, welcoming and so knowledgeable. Together, she and Massimo created such a relaxed, fun and memorable atmosphere that made the experience even more special. This wasn't just a cooking class. It was a history lesson, a cultural experience, an incredible meal and a day we'll treasure forever. We made lifelong memories, learnt skills we'll use for years to come and left with an even greater appreciation for Venice and its incredible food culture. Thank you, Massimo and Julia, for giving our family such an unforgettable day. We cannot recommend this experience highly enough.

This Cooking Class is worth doing

A few days in Venice provided the opportunity to try a cooking course: the use of spices made this one stand out from the rest, and we were not disappointed. Meeting Max, we took a short walk to his house where we started to learn how Venice brought spices to the world. We learned how to make some side dishes and rolled pasta out by hand to create a great meal, enjoyed over fine wine at a family dining table. Well worth doing.

A Journey Through Spices and Time in Venice

I joined a wonderful cooking class in Venice, starting with a visit to the vibrant Rialto Market together with Massimo. It truly felt like stepping back in time, discovering the spices that once made Venice so powerful and unique. We explored saffron, turmeric, ginger, and black pepper, each carrying stories from ancient trade routes. For every spice, Massimo created a different dish, some inspired by very old recipes. One of my favorites was a farro dish with fresh mint, turmeric, and a touch of lemon zest—absolutely delicious. It was served with tender zucchini flavored with lemon and a hint of sweet paprika. Every single bite was incredibly tasty, simple yet full of character. Massimo’s home felt like an old spice palace, filled with scents, candles, and warm atmosphere. The whole experience was fun, immersive, and full of passion for food and history. We will definitely come back.

Private Cooking Experience with Ancient Spices

An unforgettable private cooking class in Venice! We explored the ancient “Venetian Silk Road” through food, recreating historical recipes using traditional spices. Everything was incredibly delicious—especially the fresh pasta with ricotta, ginger, and mushrooms. Massimo, our host, was a fantastic entertainer and storyteller. He made the experience fun with spice-guessing games during the meal—such a unique touch! We also visited hidden, authentic spots in Venice to discover and buy spices, which made it even more special. His home also is a ancient gem. The dessert was extraordinary: fresh goat cheese with pistachio, honey, and ginger—an ancient flavor I had never tasted before. Highly recommended—truly magical and authentic!

Authentic Venice, cooking Like a 17th-Century Sailor

Our cooking class with Massimo in Venice felt like stepping into another century. We started at the lively Rialto Market, choosing fresh fish and vegetables, then visited a tiny spice shop that seemed straight out of 17th-century Venice. At Massimo’s home — truly a temple of spices — we prepared his beautiful creation, “Serenissima Golden Spice Stew,” a rich mix of the freshest fish from the market, seasonal vegetables, refined local cheeses, and warm focaccia, all touched with aromatic spices from the old trade routes. Sitting there felt like being in the house of a wealthy Venetian sailor returning from distant seas. Later we ate by candlelight, a magical lume di candela moment that felt like a real journey through time. It was perfect for our whole group, authentic, intimate, and far from the tourist crowds. If you want to discover the real soulof Venice, this is an experience you should definitely book.

The Perfect Family Cooking Experience in Venice

Looking for an activity for our group, we found something exceptional: a private cooking class with Massimo in the heart of Venice. A sailor and passionate storyteller, he guided us through the history of the spices that made Venice famous. Near the Rialto Market we explored cumin, ginger, paprika and saffron, then cooked with them in his beautiful old house. We made fresh pasta, tasted a wonderful saffron risotto, and even played a game guessing the spices by their aromas and colors. Lunch by candlelight at an ancient wooden table felt like stepping into another century. When we left, Massimo surprised us with a small gift—but that part I’ll leave for you to discover. Perfect for families. Unique. Book it.

The Spice Road Lab, Recreating Venice's Ancient Flavors

If you are looking for more than just a recipe and want a deep dive into the soul of Venice, Massimo’s cooking class is an absolute must. Our day began at the iconic Rialto Market. Walking through the stalls with Massimo was like having a backstage pass to the city. We picked out the freshest, most vibrant seasonal vegetables while learning how to spot the best local produce—a skill I’ll take home with me! What sets this class apart is Massimo’s storytelling. It wasn't just about cooking; it was a lesson on the history of Venice as the "Queen of the Adriatic." He focused specifically on two ancient spices that defined the city’s wealth and global influence centuries ago. Understanding the cultural significance of these flavors made the cooking process feel incredibly special. Massimo is a fantastic teacher—patient, witty, and clearly passionate about his heritage. We transformed our market finds into a stunning meal that tasted like authentic Venice. The balance of fresh ingredients and historical spices created flavors I had never experienced before. This was the highlight of my trip. You leave with a full stomach, a wealth of historical knowledge, and the feeling that you’ve made a true Venetian friend. We played and joked with spices, tried to identify them, and learned about their role in Venetian history while eating an incredible variety of dishes; I'd like to remember the type of cheese, a small production of the Dolomites. Grazie mille, Massimo!

A Powerful Taste of Venice You’ll Never Forget

This cooking class in Venice was an unforgettable experience. Set inside a stunning ancient palace, the atmosphere alone felt magical and full of history. We explored the world of spices and discovered how deeply they are connected to Venetian culture and tradition. The tasting was incredible: smokedd tuna with saffron, a rich sun-dried tomato cream, smoked ricotta, and crunchy almonds ( toasted...i love it!!)— perfectly balanced and full of authentic flavor. Every bite was memorable. The visit to the market with Massimo made everything even more special. He was warm, welcoming, and passionate, sharing stories and hidden corners that brought the city to life. This is more than a cooking class — it’s a true cultural journey. If you want to experience Venice in a genuine and meaningful way, book this experience. You won’t regret it.

The Seduction of Spice: A Sensual Venetian Cooking Ritual

From the moment we entered the ancient palazzo, time seemed to soften. The space itself whispered history, and Massimo, our host, welcomed us with the ease and warmth of a true Venetian anfitrione, guiding us gently into the past. The spices were exceptional: warm, vivid, deeply aromatic. We discovered unexpected foods and forgotten combinations, then wandered with him through the most hidden corners of the Venetian market, far from the usual paths, where Venice still feels secret and alive. Back in the palazzo, we shaped an ancient hand-made pasta using a beautifully fragrant whole-wheat flour, dressed with a rich seafood sauce of fish, shellfish, and old spices, deep, saline, and utterly seductive. To finish, fresh ricotta with a hazelnut and date marmalade, delicately scented with cinnamon. An intimate experience that lingers on the tongue and in the memory, a true journey into Venice, led with grace.

Experience Italian Spices and Food in a Venice Home

We participated in this activity with our whole family that included our three children ranging from 13 to 21. Massimo was a wonderful host and accommodated our requests, likes, or dislikes with so much grace. We felt very welcomed into his beautiful home and enjoyed the meal he prepared for us using fresh in season ingredients we picked at the market. He also put a lot of love and effort preparing some items ahead of time so that we would have the best meal experience. We highly recommend this activity if looking for cooking and tasting authentic Italian cuisine and spices.
