Description
Depart from the city center, close to Central Station, and transfer to the Waterland District, just 15 minutes north of central Amsterdam. Riding comfortable bikes, you can admire a pancake flat scenery of gentle brooks, wooden houses and, naturally a windmill. Led by an experienced guide, you will pass through picturesque villages and towns, pedaling alongside the banks of the dikes and waterways that gave the Waterland District its name. Reclaimed from the sea by the entrepreneurial Dutch, the land is as full of history as it is of water.

Starting point of the tour and the oldest part of the city of Amsterdam
Central Station, built from 1881-1889 by P.J.H.Cuypers in a neo-Gothic-Renaissance style, with a lot of decorative sculptures.
With the Buiksoterweg Ferry, crossing the IJ river to the Nothern part of Amsterdam
Road along the Noord-Hollandskanaal

Reclaimed Marshland. Many lakes in the Waterland area have been pumped dry. Such a reclaimed area is called a reclaimed land or polder.
Escape the bustle of the city center for a landscape of villages and cows. Learn how the Dutch manage water for centuries.
See this old village, with a special church tower, which was painted by Rembrandt. Includes a 30 minute break (possible to have lunch)

Lucas was a great tour guide! He kept us paced together, mindful of where we were at all times. Beautiful 4 hour ride across northern Amsterdam villages and rural landscape. Great variety of scenery. Jan was an outstanding guide — very knowledgeable and considerate. Yellow bikes staff were also outstanding. Our principal reservation was the quality of the bikes — old, heavy one speed cruisers with pedal brakes that are difficult to use in tight start/ stop city traffic and not flexible at all for rural stretches of the journey. Yellow bikes urgently needs to modernize its inventory and retire these venerable relics.

I went on this bike tour with my husband and 20 year-old daughters and we all thought it was the highlight of our Amsterdam stay. The weather could not have been better! Our tour was led by Trey, who was wonderful in every way! He was so knowledgeable, kind, and fun. It was our best day in Amsterdam! Excellent bike tour, well worth doing, really enjoyed it. We booked the 3.5 hour countryside tour, it was a short notice decision but the weather was sunny and we thought it would be nice to get out of the city. Great decision. The bikes were in good condition, the route was well chosen, the bike lanes are wonderfully safe. We even had a coffee stop in a lovely cafe in a nearby town. Our guide Willem was excellent. Lots of interesting facts about the waterways, and a nice friendly guy. Thanks.

Great trip. It was amazing to cycle round the villages; visit a farm shop for ice-creams; cross the river by ferry like the local Amsterdammers. Bikes were in great condition. Have booked another tour for our up-coming return visit to the city.
