This enclosure for archaeological remains at Ephesus elegantly reconciles historic conservation with accessibility for visitors. The site of a succession of great ancient civilizations, Ephesus, on the south-west coast of modern Turkey, embodied a peculiarly fertile synthesis of architecture and culture. In 356BC the Greeks built the Artemesium (a colossal Ionic temple dedicated to Artemis the fertility goddess) which was one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. During the 2nd century BC, Ephesus was the fourth largest city in the eastern Roman Empire, famous for its Artemision, the Library of Celsus and its medical school..

Admission included30 min

The Temple of Artemis is known as one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. It has been built in the areas of Ephesus on a flat area which has over the centuries turned into a swamp. If you visit Ephesus today, you can only see the ruins of the foundations of this marvelous construction of the Hellenistic Age, entirely made of marble and full of sculptured columns' capitals and shafts. The most beautiful remaining of this temple are today exhibited in the London British Museum. The oldest remaining found date back till the 6th century BC. It was surrounded by 36 huge columns, later enlarged upon the orders of the Lydia King, Kreisos, during the 6th century BC. Most of the exhibits in the London British Museum belong to this period.

Admission included30 min

At this charming and well-organised museum, there are not only findings from the ongoing excavations at Ephesus archeological site, but also the artifacts from the Cukurici Mound, the basilica of St John, and the Temple of Artemis. At one of the sections, one can see a wide collection of coins dating back to when money was first used in history.

A fantastic day in Ephesus with Eda

We were so fortunate to spend the day with Eda on our day tour of Ephesus and Sirince. She met us at the port exit and walked us to our comfortable luxury van. On the drive to Ephesus she gave us a comprehensive history of Turkiye to help us better understand what we would be seeing. Everything she presented to us painted a picture of what life may have been like centuries ago, as we strolled through the archeological ruins. The terrace houses were a particular treat as the site is still under active excavation. Lots of stairs, but it was well worth it. We drove to a countryside restaurant/ carpet gallery and enjoyed a delicious lunch under an arbor. The food was plentiful and tasty and the peacocks wandering the grounds were a bonus. This was my first time in Turkiye and what a wonderful experience. Thanks to Eda, I am looking forward to returning someday.

An unforgettable day in Kusadasi with Mehmet!

We had an absolutely fantastic experience with Mehmet! From the very beginning, he was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, communicative, and full of energy. He made sure we didn’t miss a single detail along the way and shared so much history and information that really brought every place we visited to life. We explored the ancient city of Ephesus, visited the House of the Virgin Mary, and later had the opportunity to visit a traditional carpet factory and jewelry showroom, which was such an interesting experience. We were also treated to complimentary wine, and lunch was included in our tour — everything was very well organized from beginning to end. What really made the day special, though, was Mehmet himself. He was attentive, funny, enthusiastic, and genuinely seemed to care about making sure we had the best possible experience. We never felt rushed, and he made the entire day both informative and fun. If you are visiting Kusadasi and looking for a guide who will show you as much as possible while making you feel completely welcome, ask for Mehmet. You will not regret it! Thank you, Mehmet, for an amazing and unforgettable day in Türkiye! 🇹🇷❤️ Highly recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#1 Ephesus Tour Guide - Mehmet

Mehmet (MEA) was extremely knowledgeable, friendly & outgoing. He made sure our day had great flow, pointed out all the best places to take pictures (and helped take pictures when needed). He made sure everybody in the group was having a good time, and answered all our questions with a smile. His passion for the history of Ephesus made it that much more of an enjoyable experience. The local lunch he organized for us was fantastic. We really enjoyed getting to experience some tasty local cuisine and culture. We toured a Turkish carpet weaving business on the same property as our lunch. They greeted us like family and served us traditional Turkish coffees & teas while educating us on the process of how rugs/carpets are created. The silk process was incredible. We cannot thank Mehmet enough. It was an absolute pleasure getting to spend our day with him!
