Aberfeldy Distillery Tour

Description
Just three miles from the birth place of founder John Dewar, the Aberfeldy Distillery is the only distillery built by the Dewar family. Your experience includes a distillery tour and access to the atmospheric warehouse where you can hear about the angels’ share and how the whisky is double aged for a richer smoother flavour. Also included is the heritage centre offering a unique insight into founders; John Dewar and his sons Tommy and John Alexander. You will end the tour in one of our tasting rooms to enjoy a comparative tasting of our Dewar's Blended Scotch and our Aberfeldy Single Malt. Enjoy a dram (over 18s only) in the whisky lounge with comfy sofas and warming fire as well as free wifi.

Itinerary
Your visit will start with a short film in the auditorium, followed by a chance to explore the heritage centre and discover more about the remarkable history of John Dewar & Sons. This part of your visit is self guided with the aid of audio guides/ipads, available in various languages. Your experienced tour guide will then take you on a tour of the Aberfeldy Distillery and warehouse so you can learn more about the whisky making magic! The tour ends with a wee dram in the whisky lounge for adults / seniors. Drivers can request a take-away pack to create a Maime Taylor cocktail at home. Your ticket does not include transport to/from the distillery. The distillery is located on the outskirts of picturesque Aberfeldy, nestled on the banks of the River Tay, 20 mins from the A9 in Highland Perthshire, 90 minutes from Edinburgh. Free parking. Additional tastings and whisky cocktails are available at the bar. You can browse the shop showcasing the full Dewar's portfolio along with exclusive limited edition single cask bottlings and fill your own bottle with a specially selected cask of Aberfeldy Single Malt. Tours take place throughout the day, present your voucher on arrival. Please note, last tour is 1 hour prior to closing, however we recommend allowing 1.5 hours for your visit. There is a cafe onsite, however your ticket does not include food - booking is not essential for the cafe. As a traditional working distillery, visitors must wear sensible footwear on the distillery tour (no high heels or open toed shoes permitted). Unfortunately dogs (except assistance dogs) are not permitted in the visitor centre or distillery. The visitor centre and heritage centre is fully accessible, however due to the historical nature of the distillery building, the tour can be adapted for less mobile visitors. A full accessibility statement is available.

Roy was a fantastic tour guide. Knowledgeable, funny and friendly. Given a lot of information without it being an information overload, the balance was struck just right. It was an hour and a half well spent in a small tour group.
Fantastic tour, wonderful gift shop. Roy was a fantastic guide.
The surroundings and layout of the museum were outstanding. Beautifully detailed and informative. The coffee and gift shop were excellent too. Unfortunately our guide was very difficult to understand, and didn't have any of the passion we read about in previous reviews. Our tour was very stilted and scripted. The questions asked weren't understood or answered comprehensively. You sample two whiskeys, the Aberfeldy 21y old single malt and the Dewar's 12y. At £25.00 each, our tour was very disappointing. It seems the experience largely depends on the tour guide.
Super nice experience also for non whisky drinkers

An excellent tour all round. The tour guide John was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He made us feel very welcome and answered all of the questions he was asked. Great day out, would definitely recommend to others.

Had a great tour today. Our guide was John and he was excellent. Fun, knowledgeable and willing to answer all the groups questions. The tour was great, enjoyed the drams, but the highlight was certainly John’s energy and hospitality. Thanks for a great afternoon.

We had a very nice and informative tour. We were shown around by Roy. He told with great enthusiasm and humor. Roy is a really nice accompanist. At the end of the tour you were also allowed to taste whisky. The type of Whisky was determined with a few survey questions. Very nice job!
Thank you for your review! We're delighted to hear you had such an enjoyable and informative tour with Roy. It's also great to hear you enjoyed the personalised whisky tasting at the end of the experience. We hope to welcome you back again soon.
Tim was our guide and he was just great, very knowledgeable and good craic.
We're so pleased you had such a great time on tour with Tim and enjoyed your visit to Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We hope to welcome you back again soon!
The royal guide was surely very good for those who speak English fluently. But our visit was supposed to be translated into French. However, the translation consisted of a simple sheet briefly describing the manufacturing process. In short, by the end, those who spoke English knew much more than others! So, the French, do not trust the term translation in French! And I chose this distillery rather than another since the information in French is practically nonexistent, making the visit very long!
Thank you for your feedback, and we're sorry for the disappointment. Our guided tours are currently offered in English only, although we provide written materials in several languages to support the experience. We understand this is not the same as a fully guided tour in French and appreciate how this may have affected your visit. We're concerned to hear that you were expecting a French-language tour, as this is not a service we currently offer. We'd be grateful if you could contact us at aberfeldydistillery@dewars.com to let us know where this information was communicated so we can investigate further.
Definitely recommend the Whiskey Distillery tour! Fascinating history of Dewar's and whiskey heritage. Our guide Roy was funny, interesting and a total delight! There's an optional whiskey tasting at the end, and it was delicious.
It's great to hear how much you enjoyed your visit to Dewar's Aberfeldy Distillery and your tour with Roy. We're delighted that you enjoyed learning about the history of our whisky and that the tasting was a highlight of your experience. We hope to welcome you back again soon!
