Joya de Cerén is a Mayan archaeological site dating to the Classic period, located in the district of San Juan Opico, municipality of La Libertad. It was abandoned around 660 AD due to the eruption of the Loma Caldera volcano. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Mesoamerica because it offers a glimpse into the daily lives of ordinary people. For this reason, it is often called the Pompeii of the Americas.

San Andrés is a pre-Hispanic archaeological park of the Mayan culture located in the jurisdiction of Ciudad Arce in the department of La Libertad, El Salvador. It was the capital of a Mayan kingdom that held supremacy over the other settlements in the Zapotitán Valley and was strongly influenced by Copán.

Casa Blanca Archaeological Site is one of El Salvador's most important ancient Maya sites, located in the fertile Apaneca-Ilamatepec region. Once a thriving ceremonial and residential center, it features restored pyramidal structures, plazas, and fascinating archaeological remains dating back over 1,500 years. During your visit, you'll also explore the site's small museum, where original artifacts and exhibits provide insight into the daily life, culture, and traditions of the ancient Maya civilization that flourished in western El Salvador.

Excellent tour

This was our second tour with Jorge. He was exceptional yet again and added different locations to the itinerary so we could see more. Jorge is also full of knowledge so make sure you ask him about different areas to visit in El Salvador. We will be booking with him again when we return to El Salvador.
