The best thing I've done so far this year

I can do it again If fear had a face, it was definitely mine standing at the edge before the jump But thanks to the incredible team at Abseil Victoria Falls, I went from “I can’t do this!” to “Can I go again?” in minutes! The staff were hilarious, professional, and somehow managed to convince me that going down the cliff attached to a rope was a great life decision. Safety was top-notch, the equipment was excellent, and the views were so beautiful they almost distracted me from screaming on the way down Huge respect to the guides for keeping the vibes fun and calming all at once. If you’re in Victoria Falls and want an adventure you’ll laugh about forever, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!

Operator response

What an amazing review—thank you! We love hearing that you went from “I can’t do this!” to “Can I go again?” That’s exactly the kind of experience we want our guests to have. We’re especially happy that our team made you feel safe while keeping the adventure fun and memorable. Congratulations on conquering the 110m descent, and we’ll be ready when you come back for round two!

Amazing team, manager, and experience!

To start, we believe honesty is the best policy (for better or worse), especially with travel reviews. We are from Canada/United States, and we’ve traveled to 50+ countries and seven continents. We are middle class, though still have high expectations when we are spending significant money on international travel. I used to guide whitewater rafting and hunting in Montana, USA. I understand the pressure it takes to excel as a guide for tourists that pay significant amounts to travel. We read reviews online and chose Abseil Victoria Falls. The guides did an incredible job during the experience. The Manager arrived at the hotel on time for pickup. They were friendly, fun, and polite. They efficiently drove us to their office for payment and signatures. We had a great safety briefing. The Manager is a very nice guy that does an incredible job. He really made the experience special. He is a family man with a few kiddos, and you can tell he cares about being an excellent dad. The guides that help you Abseil were incredible. They give you an excellent safety briefing upon arrival at the point. The views overlooking Victoria Falls were incredible. I mean you literally stand over a rock cliff overlooking the falls. We chose the experience where you go all the way to the bottom of the river and hike out. Yes, you get wet. Yes, you laugh and enjoy it. Yes, you need to have an adventurous mind to do the full abseil to the river bottom and hike out. The guides at the top really help relax you before dropping off the cliffs. My wife and I both were relaxed because of their safety and experience. They made us laugh because dropping 130 meters over the cliff. The hike out was safe, but if you are older or scared of walking on rocks, I’d just do the 80-meter experience where you drop down, and a machine pulls you back up. Our departure from the area was on time and was the manager that picked us up. We did have a delay in our departure from the area in the van because of an elephant standing in the road, unwilling to move! The manager was very focused on safety and not irritating the elephant. As a result, he picked up his phone and called the park rangers to come and scare the elephant away. Within five minutes, several members from the local military and park rangers arrived to scare the elephant away so we could complete our journey to our hotel. It was hilarious! Great team, great company, great experience. We can’t recommend them enough! Best, Michael W. and Jules A., +1-406-600-4054

Operator response

Thank you for such a thoughtful and detailed review! It means a great deal to our entire team, especially coming from experienced travellers who understand adventure guiding and safety. We’re delighted that you felt safe, relaxed and well looked after throughout the experience—and that you enjoyed the incredible views and full descent into the gorge. Even the elephant decided to make your adventure a little more memorable! 🐘 Thank you for trusting Abseil Victoria Falls and for recommending us so highly. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure one day!

⚠️ Caution - Do it if you’re experienced otherwise I’d avoid

BE CAREFUL-NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE INEXPERIENCED IN REPELLING/ABSEILLING ⚠️ Safety Issue - beware ⚠️ The rig for abseiling was not properly threaded and I was unable to adequately slow my descent. My right hand glove nearly burned through. At the bottom the guide looked at my rig and said, yes it wasn’t done correctly. Fortunately there was a backup safety line and someone from the top was able to slow my decent. So, not ultimately a bad outcome, but I would never go back, nor would I recommend it to my friends or loved ones. I immediately engage the company and they have spoken to me and claim to be carrying out some sort of safety review, but it has been several days and I have not seen anything that changes my feeling about the lax safety standards I observed. I do genuinely believe that they care about safety and the owners are concerned about my issue, but that doesn’t change my experience or my point of view. BE CAREFUL-NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE INEXPERIENCED IN REPELLING/Abseilling.

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that your experience left you feeling concerned about your safety. However, we would like to clarify an important point for future guests, as the suggestion that you were incorrectly rigged does not accurately reflect the system used during your abseil. We use a Petzl rack system with four friction bars. The number of bars engaged can be adjusted according to the guest's experience and the required level of friction. As you advised our team that you were an experienced abseiler, a lower-friction configuration was used to allow a faster descent. Beginners and less experienced guests are normally set up with greater friction for a slower descent. Importantly, guests do not rely solely on their own ability to control their descent. Every guest is connected to two ropes: their primary descent rope, which they use to control their speed, and a separate safety rope controlled by an instructor at the top. The instructor continuously monitors the descent and can slow or stop the guest independently if required. There is also a bottom belay, with a team member maintaining direct visual contact with the guest and able to stop the descent by applying tension to the rope. These independent safety systems are specifically designed to provide protection should a guest descend faster than intended. In your case, the safety system operated as designed and the instructor controlled your descent when required. We nevertheless take any concern raised by a guest seriously, which is why management engaged with you directly and reviewed the experience with our team. We regret that the experience did not meet your expectations. We would, however, respectfully disagree with the suggestion that the activity is unsuitable for inexperienced guests. No previous abseiling experience is required. Our team regularly takes first-time abseilers through the experience using an appropriate friction configuration, full safety briefing, instructor-controlled safety line and bottom belay. Safety remains our highest priority, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify how the system operates.

Once in a lifetime experience but very physically challenging

I did the full 110 meter abseiling which can only be done during low water. I have rappelled many years ago but it was much shorter. The hike and stairs out of the canyon would be very challenging for anyone who is not in robust physical condition. This was not briefed to me and I did not read this information anywhere. I did it just fine but there are I think 386 steps, many of them extremely steep up and down to make your way back to the top near the bridge. Other areas have roughly constructed “steps” which could be bad if any missteps. Duncan was my guide. He was excellent!

Fun activity, safety is prioritized, good value

I did the basic abseil package and hiked back up from the bottom with the guide. As a rock climber myself, I take safety very seriously, and all of their set up anchors and safety practices were excellent. It was very enjoyable and the views are excellent. We hiked back under the bridge and got to see some of the rapids and bungee jumpers. Lunch is included and although they call it a “small lunch” it was actually a nice full lunch, from a limited menu. All told it is a fun adventure and a good value.

Operator response

Thank you for sharing such detailed and constructive feedback, and we’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the full 110m abseil and that Duncan took excellent care of you. You are absolutely right that the hike out of Batoka Gorge after the full descent is physically demanding, and we appreciate you highlighting that we could have communicated this more clearly. We have since improved our guest information to make the nature of the hike clearer before booking and before the descent. For guests who are short on time or prefer not to complete the gorge hike, we also offer an 80m abseil with a winch return to the top. Thank you again for taking on the full adventure and for helping us improve the experience for future guests!

Must do at Vic falls

Great experience. James was fantastic arranging this experience and combining it with others. Provided top notch customer service and safety. I also did the bungee jump and jetboat. The abseil was actually more fun than the bungee bc you have more time to appreciate where you are as you descend. I recommend abseiling down then doing the jetboat which was the best boating experience ever.

Operator response

Thank you for the fantastic review! We’re delighted James was able to help put the experiences together and that you felt well looked after throughout. It’s great to hear the abseil was a highlight—even beating the bungee! The slower descent really does give you time to take in the incredible Falls, Bridge and Batoka Gorge views. And we agree, combining the abseil with the Jet Boat makes for an unforgettable Victoria Falls adventure. Thank you for recommending us!

Abseiling guys are absolutely fraudulent.

I would give a ZERO star if possible. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to step their foot there .They charge ridiculous amounts for horrible services. We paid for the abseiling service and for photos. Everything was fine until they told us we woulf get our pictures the next morning. Guess what? No pictures no refund. We reached out, and they had the audacity to say the photos were taken “amateurishly.” Yet they call themselves professionals? What a joke. These guys are absolute frauds.

Operator response

We appreciate your feedback and are truly sorry for any disappointment you experienced. However, we would like to clarify that some of the facts in your review are not accurate. You participated in our 50% domestic tourist special rates and you were issued a full 100% refund for the photos. Unfortunately, our media team was unavailable at the time, and we sincerely apologize that we were unable to provide photos at the quality we uphold. We always strive to deliver the best service, and we regret that this situation did not meet your expectations. If this matter remains unresolved to your satisfaction, please feel free to reach out to us via the WhatsApp line we were communicating on. We would be happy to discuss any further concerns and find a way to make things right. Thank you for your understanding.

Operator response

Thank you for the great review! We love that you pushed through the nerves and discovered just how incredible the views are from inside Batoka Gorge. Our team works hard to make every guest feel safe, relaxed and ready for the adventure. It may look scary from the top, but once you start descending, it becomes an experience you’ll never forget. Thank you for encouraging others to give it a try!

Great time!

Great experience , especially at the low season where the water level is low and you will get a chance to hike beneath the falls

Operator response

Thank you for the great review! Low-water season really does add another dimension to the adventure—the 110m abseil is just the beginning, with the chance to explore and hike beneath Victoria Falls afterwards. We’re delighted you had a great time and hope those incredible views stay with you for a long time!
